Hi again, the pressure test showed a loss of pressure over 50min. ( tested the tester all was good ) So as I had another tank to go on, I spent the day removing the old tank and fitting the new one. I then cracked the top pipe - screwdriver slipped - while tightening the little jubilee clip. So on the downside I broke a brand new expansion tank, on the upside I now know what not to do. I'll see if my fix holds in the morning if not I'll be driving my Daimler on the 11 cylinders that presently work..

I have a new tank on order and after a conversation with the shop, the thermostat was aftermarket and she's 90% sure following a convo with her supplier that it doesn't have a hole where needed. So, I'll fit a genuine thermostat, fit the new tank and get back to you. Thanks again for all your help, I'm learning and that's a good thing no

 

More progress! At the risk of repeating myself: Make sure to test the new one in a pot of water on the stove BEFORE installation. Don't fall into the trap of thinking a part must be good because it's new, even an OEM item. I'd even go so far as to test the one currently installed. You can test it side-by-side for comparison with the new one. Ten minutes of your time, doesn't cost a penny...

 

Good news ! Replacement of the thermostat has cured the fan running on. Just the fueling now, is 14/15 MPG normal round town ?

I get a lot better than that but I do have a light foot. You are using about twice the amount that I do. How much were you getting before you changed the injectors. Have you looked at the fuel trims. The long term should be at 0%. Because you may have an airleak.

I wouldn't say I was heavy footed but I do like to use the cars grunt sometimes, so I guess a little heavy . I do get about 30 mph on a run. I'll see what it looks like after an 80 mile round trip today. Injectors have never been changed, I meant coils but was unable to edit my post

 

Ok 30 is about right when on an open road. Have you looked at the actual consumption live. You just cycle the display using the button on the left stalk. It can show you where you are burning the dollars unnecessarily.
the worst I had was 27 litres per 100km Comes out around 5.9 gallons. I soon stop last take off from traffic lights

 

I think it's within normal parameters, just got home and it shows an average of 25mph. I was on windy a roads so probably about right. To rub salt in the wound though, I tested the thermostat that came out of the car and it works fine . So must of been an air lock and not bled correctly from day one .
