My S from the front. The grill surround is off of an earlier 2000 S. I prefer the cleaner look with the mesh. The surround and lower air vent have been colour wrapped with Vinyl. I have some left over to do the bumper blades and the number plate surround. (sorry she's dirty, we've had some real bad weather!)

Did you stay with the stock door and rear deck speakers? Satellite radio? Look forward to seeing the live data screen & LEDs.

I only had the standard stereo in the car so no deck speakers, only doors. The door speakers are standard at the moment and the whole system sounds ok. If i were to change them, i'd be leaning towards the Kenwood 6893's (6x8 size) for both front and rear. I may consider the Alpine 6x8's but heard mixed reviews on them.

The reason why i went single din is so that when i get the eobd data screen, it can go in the din space under the stereo. still haven't decided which one to go for as yet.

Oh and we don't really have Sat Radio here in the UK. The add on box is for DAB radio (digital broadcast). There's not many premium head units with DAB in built so add on boxes are the easiest way.

Regards

Adzbo, How does the Alpine sub sound? Is it just offered in the UK? I searched the web and only seems to come up on UK sites and is not listed on Alpines US site (no powered sub enclosures).

The sound quality can only really be described as adequate! I keep on reminding myself that its a small unit (i need as much trunk space as i can get). It also only as good as the headunit as the headunit needs a wide range of subwoofer control to allow it to really shine.

If you are looking for real high end sound quality, look elsewhere but for the money its hard to fault. I listened to the comparable kenwood and pioneer and personally thought the alpine was the best. The other two were still good value for money though.

If i could afford to loose the trunk space i would have defo gone for the MTX roadthunder 8" all in one bass cannon as that is superb for the size and money.

I've had a quick google search and look on amazon and it does seem to be European which is bizarre. Maybe worth having a chat with a good US stereo retailer (crutchfield perhaps).

Oh and lastly, i've found with my S that the trunk is reasonable well built so doesn't rattle and resonate from the bass!!!!

Thanks! I am no longer an audiophile but would like to add a little bass to the STR. There don't seem to be to many people posting in the audio section these days. I have the premium factory system, but it is pretty bad for such an expensive car (when new). I was looking at the infiniti powered enclosure, but have read from some people that adding a high quality mid bass driver in place of the factory subs would produce much better results.

Never seen the infinity version. Fitting an aftermarket sub in an OEM location may be a way forward, but then I would personally consider upgrading the power amp also. After replacing the head unit, I have found that there is actually very little wrong with the standard door speakers for low to medium volume. This may be the case with the OEM sub, that if the hardware driving were to be replaced, then audio quality may improve.

I'm definatly going to replace the door speakers now as I have the 'bug'!!! Didn't think I'd get it this quickly but I have. So going to start pricing 6x8s up for the front and rear doors.
