The only other common diesel s type faults I know of other than the petrol counterpart ones
Are the webasto heaters failing , and the DPF failing . And the occasional turbo failure.

Hello Bazza and greetings from down under . . .
Got one, also an MY07 2.7L TTD, and I love it, but . . . there is always a but . . . this is no inner city, bumper to bumper traffic, low mileage, commuter hack. The car requires regular higher speed, motorway-like conditions to really stretch its legs and undertake regular DPF regen cycles. Suits me; less than 1Km from 100Kph highways and some 600Km to capital city, so the 1,000Km plus range is great.
Next big provisos are to watch your engine lube level like a hawk, maintain a programmed maintenance regime (Stickies here have charts), and consider getting a full auto pan filter, seal and fluid change. Diff ratios unique (very tall - 2,000 RPM will soon produce flashing blue lights). All else, including that brilliant ZF 6HP26 auto is shared with the petrol version and makes for a superb touring saloon.
That said, and with several Jaguars to be inherited by my middle aged family, the TTD S-Type, despite its breathtaking economy and prodigious zip, is the least likely to be taken up . . . so . . . perhaps an acquired taste not suited to everyone's circumstances.
Cheers,

Ken
