Fluid Everywhere!!!
Help! I have a 2000 Stype 4.0 and have a major leak of fluid... Don't know where it came from but when I was backing out I lost all power steering, the battery light came on and a puddle of pinkish fluid is now all over my garage floor. I had noise coming from one of my pulleys that i believe my serpentine belt is on yesterday. The car starts and moves but powere steering is gone. Could it be my power steering pulley and fluid resevoir are shot and how much will this cost to fix? Also can I drive the car to Jaguar about 15 miles away safely without doing more damage? Please help!!!!

Yesterdays post: Noisy Belt???
I have a 2000 Stype 4.0 and in the last month I have had a "whining & rattling" noise when the car is on. I could not hear this from inside of the cabin and the car runs fine, no warning lights on or anything, but what got my attention was a plastic burning smell ( I knew it was not fluid like oil or anything) so when I got out of the car is when I heard the noisy rattling. Further investigating I found the noise was coming from one of the wheels that the serpentine belt is on and where the small amount of smoke and smell was coming from. Can anyone tell me how much this issue is going to cost to fix and am i doing any major damage driving the car? Has anyone had the same issues? I have spent countless amounts of $$$ to have this car working correctly. I have had this car since 2005 and it has 75,000 miles on it to date. Please help.

A couple of quick guesses, because there really isn't enough info here. For example, is the serpentine belt still in place? Is the fluid oil or water based? is there a CEL illuminated?
I GUESS that you burst one of the PS hoses and GUESS the fluid on the floor is PS fluid (Dexron III, red in color). If that is the correct guess, then you do NOT want to keep running the ps pump dry. Don't start the engine, definitely don't drive it, and no, you cannot drive it that way to the dealer...well, yes you can, but if there is any saving of this pump, and it might be too late anyway, it has to come from not turning it dry.
Reason I asked about a CEL is because if the serpentine belt broke, or is off the pulleys, a CEL would definitely be there, if not, then my guess about the ps hose is probably correct.
