Default Fob not working (sort of)

2000 RHD UK 3.0 S Type

Fob only works sometimes;

Fob does not work

Open car with key (alarm goes off straight away (is this normal?)) - Turn key in ignition to extinguish alarm and turn off

Close door - Fob alarms and de-alarms and opens boot

Leave it 15 minutes and it is back to not working again

Some sort of "cycle" I would guess?

Any offers?

Regards

You should have a 2nd one. (If not, get one ASAP.) What does it do? That will let you figure out a bunch of things it can't be.

Exactly the same

It will be to do with the central locking module I expect - I am curious because on my 1999 S type if you open the door with the key there is a period of time to insert the key and turn before the siren sounds - On this one there is not, so the alarm module could be an issue too

The 1999 is how it should be (and mine is too), and as you have 2 keys/fobs doing the same at last we know it's the car not the keys/fobs.

It may be that the module can be set (OE tool) the way you describe as an option. Anyone know?

Meantime, make sure your car battery reads at least 12.5V engine off after standing unused overnight.

Yeah.......- Might be the issue, it is a "donor car" - Could be after it has run for a while the charge is good but drops after it is turned off

Thanks for the idea
