Default Front brakes replaced

So it seems we seldom turn (cut) rotors any more. We either run them again or replace them. I plan on measuring the rotor thickness and based on that I will do the same (I have 40k on the original rotors and pads). I intend to use a quality ceramic that will lessen the dust on the mag wheels. I know it should be stamped on the rotor but does anyone know the minimum thickness, I checked Jtis couldn't find specs. Any tips or pad suggestions?? BTW when reading through here for lug nut torque specs I've read anywhere from 65 ft lbs. to 94.5 ft. lbs and this differs if greased or not. Wait.... what ??

Accord to my JTIS the front rotor minimum thickness is 28mm and the new one should be 30mm. I really dont see why you would have to turn them if you aren't getting any vibration. Take them off and give them a good cleaning with some brake cleaner and you should be able to reuse if within spec.

I agree. You should be able to re-use the rotors. I replaced our front brake pads at about 31,000 miles and did not turn the rotors because there was no need to do so. They were clean and smooth. They still are at just over 51,000 miles....

Well that depends on how expensive the new rotors are. On my 2001 Sable good quality rotors can be had for about $22. It's pointless to have the rotors cut at that price unless you have your own machine.

But Jag rotors are more. You can try just doing the pads see how it runs out. I'm planning that on my 05 STR soon. But if you do end up with any issues it's usually because they needed to be turned. That's the reasdon brake shops always turn the rotors. Come backs are just too expensive for them. You can always pull them off and have them turned if that's the case.

Genuine cases where rotors need to be cut are extremely rare. Visual defects that could be machined out are virtually meaningless. Performance issues like pedal vibration are usually just build up of pad material, not a warped rotor.

www.brakeperformance.com has some nice Dimpled & Slotted rotors for our cars that are probably just as much as OEM blanks are from the dealer. Its $385 for the front pair, and $273 for the rear pair. I already ordered them for mine, can't wait to see how they look on the 19's!

HOW MUCH?

Gack. Is it too late to send them back? Slots and dimples are pure 'bling' - makes no difference in braking abilities on a street driven car.

I got the black coated slotted and cross-drilled. I have ran them on my other car and dont get on them hard enough to crack so I couldnt see paying the extra money for the dimpled. Looks alot better then stock. I got it for the bling factor cause I wanted to do something different with the Brembos. Heres what I did.

So you like the look of the cross drilled and that's why you got them?
That's fine with me. But WTF is the pupose of a dimpled rotor?

I think its so they can charge you more. Kidding. I think the purpose of it was for people that wanted the cross drilled look but without the possibility of it cracking. I have had 2 sets front and rear of cross drilled and slotted rotors on my last car and I have never had one crack or even show signs of it starting to crack. They charge almost 100 more just to have dimples instead of it being cross drilled, I'd rather just have the real thing and get them cross-drilled. I think if you hard on your brakes enough to crack them then you probably would of warped them if they were solid. Like I said I just like the looks of it and I felt 459 was reasonable for a set front and rear, not much more then solid. Plus they look nice with the red calipers.
