Default Gas pedal broke away from mount!

Today I was driving the STR and stabbed the gas pedal to the floor then the complete pedal and assemby broke from the firewall mount. At first i was scared, then after assessing the damage, I laughed at the idiocy of the entire event. Thankfully I had my tool bag in trunk and strapped it to the main mount and gingerly drove her back to the office where then I Gorilla Glued and bailing wired the entire pedal assembly (plastic) to the mounting bracket. Has this happened to anyone? Where can I purchase a new gas pedal assembly? LOL! How can this happen to a $60,000 car?

WOW! Glad you were able to safely pull off the road and rig it up to get you home. I've owned a few cars in my time (some nice-some beaters) and I've never had a pedal assembly come off while I was driving before. But to have it happen on the Jag is just....well you know.

Where did it break anyway. Do you have the electrically adjustable pedals or no?

If so click here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jagua...Q5fAccessories

HINT: Make an offer don't buy now. I just bought a passenger side window from this guy, and he wanted 119, I offered 75 and he took it.

If you don't have the electrically adjustable pedal:

Although I think this one is missing the rear mounting bracket you may have broken...

Default Gas pedal

Thank you so very much for locating the pedal/controller my kind man. I don't have adjustable pedals and I'm almost certain the monting bracket is ok and the pedal/controller broke. It appears to be a c-clip removal and slide over a shaft on mounting bracket as all to it? I will hand this over to the mechanic when it comes in. Thank you again.

I did not know you could purchase a STR without the adjustable pedals??? These were standard on the S Type from 2003 until the end. Also on the Lincoln LS but dropped to optional in the last year or two (2005-2006).

MY 03 3.0 Doesn't have the adjustable pedals, just the tilt / telescoping column. I also don't have homelink or memory seats... So these features were in fact not standard...

Oh yeah on an STR... I'm surprised too, which Is Why I posted the electric adjustable pedal first.

I actually was discouraged partially in my STR Search cause I don't want a factory NAV car. I'm a big audio guy, and I have to be able to replace everything...

My S-type is completely aftermarket as far as audio is concerned.

George is your VIN before M45255? You've got a pre-redesign car if so. By 2003 I think that'll be 2003MY i.e. re-design.

I think the STR always had the adjustable pedals though maybe you could specify them to be omitted?

No, I have a post redesign car... Jag radio, oval console etc..
Just doesn't have these options.

Default Asdjustable pedals

How would one know if their STR had adjustable pedals? Where would the button be?

The same knob on the left side of the steering column. Twist the knob one way and you can adjust the steering column twist it the other way you adjust the pedals. Leave it in the middle position to have the memory settings in effect. Either memory 1 or memory 2. Remember that the memory settings are selected by the button on the driver’s door master switch as well as being controlled by the remote key fob. You can program the two fobs for two different memory settings. This sometimes trips up people and makes them think the memory function is not working.

Bsfgross; any connection with the revised exhaust system and breaking the accelerator pedal?

Sixteen way adjustable seat, steering column tilt & length, accelerator pedal box height and then add in the mirrors, it took me a fortnight to get the drivers position just right in my STR.

It's good to hear you didn't get any damage that could be worse .

LOL! Why did my gas pedal break? Perhaps two reasons. That day Jaguar reset the ECU and TCM. I was instructed to drive hard for 100 miles in normal transmission mode then drive hard in sport mode. I wasn't aware the STR has adjustable pedals so when i stomp, I stomp on em, and stomping on a maladjusted pedal?...it broke! LOL! I felt like a friggin tard when it broke...probably the only known case of broken pedal for the STR?
