Gear select cable adjustment 2000 S 3.0ltr
Reading some of the posts in the archives, I know it is a requirement and I try to behave, sometimes, about the 5R55N transmission fiasco's.
This began when the Black Beast had a trans flare after 350kms non stop country run. Slowed for a corner into our estate and got this rev flare.
Oh s&^t was the first thought, but at 91K kms it cannot be a trans failure, or could it??.
The select cable adjustment came up, so I looked into it, and found that the lever does indeed collide with the plastic section of the J Gate in the "D" position, AND, there is NO distinct "click" of the detent heard. This has always had me thinking, "did this REALLY go into drive"?, but the car has always moved forward in "D", so no more thought given back then.
I adjusted the 2 X 24mm locknuts (easy HAHAHA), and 4 flats later I was happier than when I started out. All the lights came on at the proper time, and the detent of the selector was clearly heard.
Went for a drive, DAMN, what a difference. Maybe I am dreaming, but after 3 days, even the spouse (Minister for everything) commented on the "smoothness of your car as compared to mine". Yes dear, yours will be adjusted next.
As you all know by now, my reasoning is about as scientific as a brick, and it works for me.
The shifts are smoother, sharper, both up and down. It was smooth before, etc, but now it is better by some noticeable degree.
