What are the last six digits of your VIN number? Are they higher than M45255?

P1978 is not listed for the 5-speed S-Type (up to 2002MY) but is listed for the 6-speed (MY2002.5 onwards).

P1978 = Transmission, CAN TCM/IC network malfunction; CAN open circuit or short circuit, IC failure, TCM / control valve failure.

 

yea its 6 speed stype 2003 model. thanks for d code translation but pls how do i trace this fault. or how do i dictect the fault and possible solution. i will apreciate ur quick response.
