Default Gearbox fault & DTC code

Hi, the "Gearbox Fault" has warning came on on my automatic 04 3.0L V6 SE S Type, Engaging gears from park (especially reverse) is clunky & can be heard outside the car. It also takes a bit to move from a (like a slipping clutch on a manual) standstill before the gears engage. prior to the gearbox warning coming on it felt like the car was changing up & down a gear & was more noticeable when coasting downhill. last night I (it was very frosty & -1) went out to move the car & while the screen was clearing the amber engine warning symbol came on. I checked & it was now showing P1647 as a (previously the only DTC code was P1111) pending code. An air leak was suggested on the UK forum (amongst many things) but the fuel trims didn't look bad. Could P1647 be linked to the gearbox fault or am i just having more bad luck. The amber engine warning light went out after (was on on way there) restarting the car when i went to the petrol station today. many thanks

That's an O2 sensor (or its wiring) fault - grab the codes PDF free on here and read up

Probably other threads if you Search on the code.

It means the engine can't be fuelled accurately so that will make smooth gear changes tough. Still isn't forced to be the actual problem but your cat conv is at risk when fuelling is by guesswork due to the fault.

Other thing to check is that the shifter linkage on the side of the trans is OK - there are 2 small bolts that can come loose or even fall out.

Thanks JagV8 for your time. I'm limited for space so would have to jack (not ideal but needs must) p to check the bolts. Are they visible & are they on passenger side (right hand drive car) of the gearbox. Thanks again John
