Thumbs up Good lawd another problem RESOLVED

Ok folks got a check engine light AGAIN! I was near the dealer I purchased the car from and he hooked up the scanner. The scanner said "fuel rail sensor". How many sensors are there and is it easy to fix?

Good data in JTIS, and in the Electrical Guide.

Also in JEPC.

Both free on here.

Just one sensor I think.

Here's a screen shot of a global search for "fuel rail"on JTIS for your model and year, it all seems to be situated in the 303 section.
Don't know if this will help as I don't have time to check each section.

It does seem that many questions are met with "look in JTIS/FAQs". When I asked a question about the 5 speed automatic transmission, I kept getting "Look in FAQs/How To Guides" as the answer - except that it wasn't there, only 6 speed info. Thankfully someone more helpful volunteered some information.

JagV8 - please note that JTIS is NOT a very well laid out system and it is not easy to use, especially for a beginner. Every other electronic manual I've ever used has been better - including the older Jaguar ones (for the XJ40, for example). I use other forums and even when the answer is in the manual, we actually volunteer USEFUL information rather than just barking out "use the book". It's what communities do As owners become more familiar with the vehicles and "paperwork" they will be more able to find the answers for themselves - so why not help a bit and cut down the time that process takes? You spent longer telling me to look into the How To Guides for non-existent information (5 speed transmission) than you would have done if you'd just given me the answer.

I volunteer, unpaid. You're welcome to do likewise. It's easier to complain than do...

I don't generally carry every item of info in my head (probably can't) but I do know how to go about finding it, so that's what I pass on. Silence would be no use but is the other option.

If the 5-speed info wasn't in the FAQs, have you asked a moderator to add it, telling them what to add?

Ask and ye shall receive!!!

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...s-power-77995/

I went thru this on my 2005 STR. Not too hard to replace and not too expensive to get. It's another Ford part that was cheaper at the Ford dealer but I have heard that the price has gone up.

Please check Ford and Jaguar prices before placing an order!

But yes it's all in the JTIS/JEPC.

Indeed - I do, and shall continue to, offer advice and help as much as I can. However, only having owned my S-type for a couple of months I'm still at the bottom of a steep learning curve but will contribute more as my experience grows I am an experienced and competent DIY mechanic and car enthusiast)

As for adding the info, someone else volunteered it and it was added to the FAQs. the problem was that you kept saying "look in the FAQs" when the info wasn't there - and when I told you it wasn't, you insisted that it was (wrongly). Help is great. Misguidance is less so

What can I say? Obviously no-one added something to the FAQs even though you'd expect it to be there. Most stuff like that is there already and that's because someone bothered to get it there. There's always the Search feature for stuff not readily found at a glance and I wrote a How-To about doing better than a simple Search.

Thankfully the S-Type still has a decent workshop manual that isn't online subscription-only, as most modern cars are. The costs really mount with those. BMW was about $250 minimum fee last time I looked, for example.

I'm glad I didn't take JagV8's attitude on the Victory Motorcyle forums I belonged too. Always helped out when I could and would also offer the direction to manuals but I always gave the answer. I understand that, you give a man a fish he eats a meal, you teach a man to fish he eats a lifetime but, there is nothing wrong with giving the answer.

To that end I found a "Air Fuel Ratio Sensor - Upstream" 03 2003 Jaguar S Type Air Fuel Ratio Sensor - Fuel Injection - Denso, Front, Upstream - PartsGeek on parts geek. Is that the correct part I need?

Did they tell you the code? If so please post it. Have you checked your fuel pressure to see if it is low or fluctuating? If you need an electrical oneline see the link below

As for the part it is marked as a fuel sensor but is that what you need to fix the problem?

I did not get the code number and I don't have the tools to check the fuel pressure. I know that the car is running great just a check engine light on.

As for checking the pressure you can go to most local auto parts places and they have a tool loan program where you can get a fuel pressure gauge. Installing it is like filling a tire with air no tools required. Get the codes and post them. If the light is on the car may not be running great!

I posted what I think your problem is. Please go to a parts store and get us a code. We are all guessing until we get some real information!
