Got a Gearbox Fault light now !!!
I really don't want this to come across as critical, but let me give you a few facts. The vehicle that you describe, in very good condition, will bring about $5,200 at the dealer auction with less than 100k miles. Additionally, I've never paid more than about $3,800 for a transmission rebuild even on a Mercedes S600. Most of these transmissions are very serviceable with basic tools and you should always get a replacement torque converter.
For $7,000 you could have gone to the dealer but seriously, the kits are pretty inexpensive and hard parts beyond basic wear items are available at relatively low cost. Please, don't every been drawn into paying that kind of money for a transmission.
Even if I paid $3,800 for a transmission rebuild, then marked it up, I'd be out the door at around $4,900 and that's on a Mercedes S600.
