handbrake cable too short to connect to handbrake assembly? help.

handbrake cable too short to connect to handbrake assembly? help.
So, I removed my old handbrake and fitted it with a new one, and now I cannot get the cable to wrap around it. its like as its to short. Does anyone know what the problem may be? thanks.
