Question Heater isn't blowing heat, but A/C blows cold

New here. Checked for other posts, and can't quite tell which describes my problem.

Just acquired this weekend my 2001 Jaguar S-type 3.0 V6 with 114,000 miles.

The temp gauge is rock steady in the middle, the A/C seems to blow cold, but the heater does not blow heat. I've played with the dual zone controls in every way I could think of, but no heat.

I see mention of a variety of valves that might be involved. How do I determine what is going wrong, and how do I fix it?

Had same problem with my 06 STR. Mechanic said it was problem with the litttle doors that open to direct heat to the windshield and elsewhere. Your mechanic can replace the doors at around $700 each.

More than likely the DCCV (Dual Climate Control Valve) needs to be replaced.

Here is a link to a thorough diagnosis process developed by Karl:

Welcome to the forum.

Please work through the troubleshooting guide linked above. Specifically, test the DCCV as detailed in post #2 at the guide. Be sure to compare the duct temperature to ambient for a good idea of what is happening.

The most common DCCV failure is to stick open, dumping full heat into the cabin regardless of the selected temperature. However, I had one side fail in such a way that it restricted coolant flow, and thus reduced the heat output on that side. Details here, including a simplified repair method:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...repair-251854/

If the entire DDCV does need to be replaced, check this link:

Be aware of the discount brands out there, such as the $39 eBay specials. Stick with a quality name brand such as Bosch or Motorcraft.

The doors within the ductwork were previously mentioned as a possible cause, but I don't think that will be it. The various doors only control where the heated/cooled air is routed, such as to the footwells, dash, or defrost. Heat output is controlled by the DCCV. Even if a door failed, you'd still get the desired temperature airflow, just from the wrong outlet.

Edit: Please don't forget to post the eventual fix, whatever it is, to help out the next guy. You wouldn't believe how many unresolved threads we have here.

Brilliant resources, Karl . . . just brilliant . . . and much appreciated your style of positive writing how much DIY can achieve. Huge thanks on behalf of everyone who will face these issues. Mine is one of the last S-Types and suffered the DCCV failure, so I think it is just a matter of time and inevitability for everyone else.

Cheers,
Ken

THANK YOU. I'm a backyard mechanic, inclined to try fixing it myself instead of paying $1,400. I'm weird that way.
