Help! Engine System Fault is killing me!
Hello all. I am new to this forum. Recently purcased a 2003 S Type R. Love the car, pulls like crazy, (When its running). The problem I am having while driving I get an error saying engine system fault. All warning lights come on, and the car will no longer accelerate, and runs like crap, rpm stays around 1200, up and down. Sometimes after restarting, it will do fine. Other times it may take a few restarts. I put it in the shop last week and they replaced the throttle body ($1137.10) Worked great for a few days. Also, before it started doing this, I got a few codesfor improper air fuel metering. They said it was theTB. Does anyone think it may be theMAF, and is the TPS sensor incorporated with the TB assembly. Thanks for you help I got a crappy warranty that only pays $75 of the labor rate. Could start costing alot.
TPS is on Throttle Body. If they replaced Throttle housing then new TPS was on it, so that would illiminate that. We don't have many problems with S-Type R Mass air flow sensors. Possibly faulty throttle pedal. Need trouble codes if you have them to help you further. Look on your repair order and see if the tech wrote codes in his story.
Code found during first bout with the dealer was P0121. Second time in the shop they listed U2523 and U1027. They said I had water in the spare tire belly and some electrical components back there go corroded. They drilled a hole in the trunk and replaced the trunk seal. That was a week ago and I have not had a problem with it since. Except for a surging from the motor under light loads at cruising speeds. Say I'm running 40 mph and slightly accelerating, you can see the tachometer bouncing a bit and the car slightly bucking. (Pulls strong under more brisk acceleration though.) I checked the plugs and they looked a bit bad. Possibly corroded from the engine running bad for awhile. I plan to change them and see what happens. Any ideas.
Sorry to say this mate, the U**** codes are network codes. They will not set the Restricted performance or the check engine light. If your restricted performance is coming on there will be a code stored in the ECM. If the throttle body was put on recently I would take it back and make them look again. Even if you do not want the work done, the Ext warr company should pay for the diagnostic. The fact they drilled a hole in the trunk!!!! Should never have been done. There are ruber plugs in the trunk well that allow the water to run out when removed. Go in to the dealer that did the work and give the service manager holy hell about the trunk being drilled and ask him what he is going to do to compensate you. That should get you some free work!! Also, the fact that the fuse box is back there isnt good. Did they clean the corrosion? That fuse box controls the rear electronic module (upper right side bhind carpet) also the fuel pump and other related components. It is again, hard to asist with diagnosis without knowing what codes are in the ECM now. Anyway, hope this helps you get the work done. At least have the dealer pay the difference in what the ext warr co. pays for repairs. The dealer can lower their labour rate to assist you.
