Help with Limp Mode, ECM communication & a delicious concoction of issues!
Well, If all else fails I will get another code reader like the ELM and try and use that to figure it out.
After some more reading, I'm going to check out some fuses under the hood and the one in the Primary junction box to eliminate that possibility if nothing else.
Also, I think this may be relevant, but the "R" indicator light on the J-Gate doesn't illuminate when Reverse is selected. It has been that way for a while and didn't appear to produce any negative effects thus far. Coming to think of it, shortly thereafter, the Park interlock solenoid / functionality went out as well. Is it possible that the J-Gate module could be shorting and causing these issues?
Like I mentioned earlier, since I've already got a working J-Gate replacement unit, I was going to swap it in and check it out anyway. Is this worth a look /effort?
Thanks

The selector lever illumination module is a node on the CAN bus.(listen ONLY)
The info flows through it to all the modules.
The CAN bus diagram is on page 20.1 Electrical Guide Publication number S2003STYPE

Either the message isn't being sent (not in R) or the jgate module isn't getting the message (bad CAN, bad module, ...) or the R light (LED?) has failed. You can to some extent tell by whether the other lights work.
Not much help but I have never been asked to disconnect the battery when operating the SDD?
Like you said how would you even do that?
Does the J-gate give any errors in SDD? If it does not I think the indicator light might be burned out.
Have you unhooked the ECM to inspect the plug? We have seen some strange stuff if any moisture gets into it.
A long shot but thought I would mention it.
I would read and clear all DTC's.

Is there enough slack in the J-gate harness to plug in the new one without removing the old? If so, that would be quick and easy to try. I find it very interesting the R won't illuminate. An LED is usually very reliable, so I'd suggest getting that squared away first, just in case it is somehow affecting the TCM.
And Sangeeth, I've got to admire your patience and tenacity. Keep plugging away!
The WDS, IDS will only ask to disconnect battery when the ECM loses communication and the steps are followed in the Jaguar 32 bit ECM recovery procedure.
The battery disconnect is not a common request from WDS, IDS.

Any updates? Seems you were hot on the trail...
Old thread but I was going to suggest changing out the speed sensor. Sometimes the error codes are correct.
It's not that hard to do. I've got to do that eventually. For now I let the car warm up and it skips the limp mode.

It's a shame that there is no more feedback.
I have a problem that the TCM cannot be addressed, but it seems to be working correctly. At least (almost) everything works like shifting, kickdown, etc. without error messages. But it cannot be addressed with WDS or IDS (model 2002.5 with 3.0l engine). I also had an ECM error in between, but it has been resolved (a workshop resolved it). So I'm looking for solutions here in the forum and have ended up at this post, where unfortunately I can't go any further without comment. It's a shame.
Greetings, Willi
