Default HELP NEEDED ASAP !

Hey all, sorry I have been off the air for a while ! Nice to be back

I have a real issue with my 2000 model S Type. I started driving to work this morning and thought I had a flat tyre, had a look at all four and they were fine.

Got back in and started driving- it felt like a ship in a storm, like the steering was not connected to the wheels and it was wallowing all over the road, it is as if the car is not responding to the steering wheel- felt seriously dangerous, so I have taken it to my mechanic and they have had it on the hoist and cannot find anything ! []

Has anyone else ever experienced this problem and what is it ?

Definately feels like steering or suspension but nothing obvious is showing up !

Appreciate any advice [&o]

Do you have the sport model with the C.A.T.S. system it may be as simple as disconnecting the battery and reconecting to reset the system. Mine felt like that once and that solved the problem. Good luck and welcome back.

Tire pressure?

I once picked my car up from having the tires swapped (winter to summer) and I couldn't believe how my car was handling. Everything looked to be okay, so I decided to check the tire pressure. It was about 10lbs too high. So I lowered it, and presto! The car was back to its' normal handling

Just a thought!

I had similar symptoms as Francesca about a year ago. I inspected the tie rod ends, ball joints, wheel bearings, tire pressure and everything checked out ok. I started to suspect the steering rack so checked it for leaks and couldn't find any. I figured it wouldn't hurt to empty the power steering fluid reservoir and refill..except I refilled it with Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak fluid. Over the next 50 - 100 miles the steering slowly began to firm itself back to where it was when it was new.

A big thank you to everyone for all your helpful suggestions.

After baffling all the mechanics at our workshop, an independant steering mechanic was called in and he too was convinced it was the steering rack but it wasn't !

It was a very loose screw in the ball joint, so instead of $3,500 it cost $130 to repairand the beastie is back on the road (not sure for how long as these Jags seem to have a habit of problems coming at you out of left field)and not sailing around like a ship in a breeze- quite un-nerving at the time !

Bye for now

Well, just when I thought "what a relief, it didn't cost an arm and a leg".....it did in fact turn out to be a ball joint (not the screw) as I drove it again after picking it up from the mechanic and it started to wobble all over the road- so $1000 later- a new ball joint and swing arm is being fitted as I write...does it ever end !

Thanks everyone

Thankf for the condolences !

I meant the wishbone, not the swingarm- in my previuos email....thinking motorbikes, not cars when i wrote it.

I have just put my baby up for sale in the classifieds on Jag forum if anyone is interested- she's a beauty !
