Well just got the solenoid pack out and I found this loose ,just on top of it,anybody an ideas what it is or where it's from? !!![ATTACH]Help with s type auto transmission 5R55N-image.jpg[/ATTACH]

Not sure but maybe it connects to the shifter rod to move valves in the valve body?

It looks as though the overdrive band has snapped and this part is something to do with that.
It's new transmission time ,i think!

Overdrive band "snapped" ? I doubt that. Bands I've seen are thick even if the friction material isn't so much. That sure looks like the link between the actuator and the band, but why it would fall out...you'd have to remove the overdrive piston to get a look see. Might be worth a trip to youtube to see how those units come apart. Unless you can pick up a used one cheap from a wrecker I'd take it apart. Got nothing to lose.

Well I've finally changed the transmission with a know good unit but I'm getting a grinding noise that sometimes disappears but then comes back,it seems to be coming from the torque convertor area.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I've finally changed the transmission but im getting a grinding noise from the torque converter area,any suggestions please? Could it be low on fluid?
