Patty, send a PM to motorcarman

Or if you're nearer to Brutal go there by all means.

Both really know their stuff.

That too. When I was shopping for my S-Type I was going to try to get a BRG one. By the time I got the finances ready, it was sold. I then had a choice between zircon and white. The dealer tried in the worst way to unload the white one, but I held out for the zircon one.

I just traded in my 08 S-type 3.0. It had 35K miles on it and I got 22G on trade. I averaged 26.7 MPG coming from Nashvile to Boston (1200 miles) Cruise control at 75-80 whole way. It had the Sport Option (19 Wheels dont knwo if anything else comes whith that) It has been a daily driver for few years and no real issues. Very comfortable and was always plenty fast enough, Way faster than my 97 528 BMW.
Go with a Select Edition (Certified Pre-Owned) ...

Mike

My dream had always been a Jag in BRG..

When we were on the lot there was my platinum S, and an X in BRG, same years, roughly same mileage.. but I was straight up smitten with the S... but then that was fate because Every car I've ever bought off a lot is silver. Granted, the X has some serious cosmetic issues... and the S only had a few.

I've had mine for 3 years and only two trips to the dealer. First time was for a funky gas guage (fixed under warranty- no charge) and the second was a dead battery (batteries not warranty) and they fixed a few other items..OMT rings and tranny seal just to mention those two.
I have an extended warranty which has about half paid for itself.
Patty, if you do get a later model, look for after market extended warranties, they'll help with major expenses. Or get a Select Edition with Jags factory warranty.
Oh, and the second time, I had a new XF as a loaner car.

That was a change in 2005. But the major changes for 06 that I was referring to was the addition of VVT for the supercharged 4.2 and the elimination of the Brembo Brakes on the R and elimination of dual piston front calipers on the base 3.0 and 4.2......

Texas is as large as all of New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and North Carolina combined. The state's area consists of 261,232 square miles of land and 7,364 square miles of water
England's 50,346 square miles

Y'all crack me up.

Brutal, the sissor, rock, paper suggestion helps put the engine size question into perspective.

Bodyman, I will happily take the Cat AND the dog! I love dogs. They are my passion.

Norri, I believe you may be spot on about the color. I've already decided I don't want another black interior. The Jetta has black leather and it's time to mix it up a bit.

Jayt2, thanks for the suggestion of Select Edition. Someone else mentioned it somewhere but I had to research to even know what it referred to.

Have I mentioned that I love this forum?

Laurie brought the dog with her, I supplied the cat. You would have to fight her for either.

It's a shame you won't do over 80. That seems to be the sweet spot for S-Types. They are excellent highway machines, even the 3.0s.

If there is an R in your area for sale I would test drive it. Yes its alot of power, but its smooth power. Its not really that much more money then the others. It is a slightly higher mainenance cost, but man the smile it puts on your face. Id test drive all 3 models and see which one suits you best. The STR definitly goes like a scalded kitty. Stick with the 03 and up.

I love my STR but I might have the 4.2 otherwise. I was gonna say "ordinary" 4.2 but 300hp in that car is no way ordinary.

If you're not fond of more than 80, either 3.0 or 4.2 will probably suit so test drive one of each.

I'm not fond at all of warranties, you just spend more over time that way, but some prefer extra peace of mind and that's OK too.

Joyce and I were looking for an STR originally, but 2.5 years ago when our 3.0 came up on ebay we "won" it at $12,600.00, when the rest were selling at $18,000 and up! And the STRs were selling in the low twenties.

Oh and it had about 42k on the the ticker.

Where is this Motorman you mentioned, aholbro1?
Just off FM730 between Boyd and Decatur. Like John said, just PM him. Great resource. I'd say probably a "full" hour for you...but if you hold on to the VW....he'd also be good to know. Seems I've been to Aubrey for some of our kids sporting events and it's a fair haul home. Don't know much about Park Place but if within 1/2 hour of you and they treat people properly and know their stuff, that is goodness. If you take the select edition advice you'd normally be seeing a dealer for service anyway, with a cushy air-conditioned waiting lounge or perhaps loaner cars. Bob won't supply any of that...but his goats put on a pretty good show unless it's topping 100F out like last time I stopped by, then they pretty much just sleep in the shade. Dealerwise, I have dealt solely with Autobahn in FTW and Jose, the parts guy is first rate. Haven't had any service performed there save a couple of keys cut/programmed but have talked with the service mgr whose name I cannot now recall and he seemed like he had it altogether as well. But that would be a pretty good drive for you..maybe 1.5-2 hrs.
Patty, sorry I haven't had a chance to look at your fuel econ. links yet but I'll get to it, thanks for them.

hmmm...bushings on the 03 looked like crap in 08 when we bought it with 66k mi....still do...bushings on the 05 looked like crap in 09 when we bought it with 28k mi...still do....but bushes on the 95 were in fine nick in 10 when we bought it with 63k mi....still are....I guess if you don't mess with 'em...they don't change much! No further planned Jaguar buys in 11.....

Lol...good thing we all like different things! I think BRG is kind of a sick color...almost (not quite) as bad as that gold or topaz.....the V-8 I drove was an 04 in Zircon...beautiful car, and then missed an 03 3L in Zircon that was probably in better nick than the white one we bought simply by not pulling the trigger when I looked at it.....but it cost more, too...anyway...Zircon and White are my fave's for S-Types, though black is sharp too. Wife wanted Zircon...but alas...we found the stars aligned on Radiance Red.

Nah...05 as John said..and maybe the "R" gave up fog lights, the "normal" cars lost their brake cooling ducts.
