Wow....I was under the impression that all these Jag V8's had VVT. They certainly gave me enough grief (also the VVT chains tensioners and guides)on a 98 XK8 convertible I had prior to this one...

I'm pissed my '07 R has single-piston brakes. What the hell were they thinking doing that and dropping the brembos.

New supplier and reduced $$$$..... That is why the standard car got the R facia for 2008 as well... Along with the R Shifter and R all leather wheel...

Also why all 2007 cars got the premium piped leather... Less choices equal less cost to build.... Jaguar already knew that the last year for the S was 2008.....

Man... I really need to get a different hobby.... I'm the guy they make fun of on Top Gear....

(Oh yea...This applies to US cars...your results in Europe may vary)

Jeff,

I noticed the 2008 V6 cars still had the wood wheel and wood shift knob. It looks like the V8 cars got the leather steering wheel and R type shift knob as you described. Also, it looks like the V8 cars got the R-Type wheels as well. Three years makes a huge difference in price. The 2008 cars are in the high 20's to low 30's.

That's the brilliance of TG. They are fun, irreverent, and still manage to be informative.

The funny thing about my S-Type, is despite just being a 3.0, the locals still drool over it. Ok, so I live amongst a bunch of drooling hicks, but still.... Even odder, since we got ours, several more S-Types, XJs, and an XF have appeared.

Yup... there is a difference.... So, the correction is like this...

2007: The piped leather and burl walnut trim of the Premium Trim (sometimes called VDP) became the "standard" trim. That carried into 2008. The final run of V8 and V6 cars were called the "satin" edition cars, and these were the ones with the leather R shifter and all leather steering wheel...

Nice catch mike... The only 2008's I had seen were the satin cars...

Now... Has anyone EVER seen a 2008 S Type R????????

One made in 2008 or one sold then?

Ahh..... wait.... the Specs PDF says 2008MY is VIN N80181-N91220 so just need to see if any of those is an STR.

I didn't see it personally, but a local dealer ..Rusnak in Pasadena CA.... had one for sale earlier this year. It was black on black and was listed in the mid 30's. I know I shoulda copied the vin but I forgot. It was there only for a couple of weeks before it disappeared.

Default 2008 str

Yes. Here are some pictures of an 2008 STR. They are VERY rare!! I think Jaguar went overboard on the chrome but in the last year (2008) I have seen many odd combinations as the S Type ground to a halt. Other pictures attached.

Got the VIN for that "2008"? I'd guess it's not truly a 2008.

No VIN. Sold by a dealer as a 2008 STR so it looks right. Notice the "supercharged" on the gauge faces. Only STR with a wood wheel and the seats without the embossed "R" that I have seen. All the chrome is factory options. The last years were a bit wild on the combinations that could be put together!!

Sorry...Mr Nerd here.... the trim around the headlamps and tail lamps is aftermarket. Also, the pillar trim (it looked like it had that too) is aftermarket...

But... Yes, premium trim or otherwise called "Luxury Package" cars had the chrome window surround trim and chrome mirror caps. They may have made them all "Luxury Package" cars in the end since it seems that they narrowed the choices way down in the last years..

And, yes, I too noticed the "supercharged" script in the gages, so I would assume as well that it was an R. The big question still, is it an 07 or an 08... Only the Vin would tell. It wouldn't be the first time a dealer listed a car the wrong model year..I catch it all the time.
