How many miles are on your S?
2003 S-Type 3.0 Manual Trans
104,000 miles
Acquired in 2011 with 94,000 miles with CEL on.
Work done: One melted catalytic converter (cause of the CEL), plenum gaskets, new spark plugs, 4 brake rotors, clutch release bearing/slave cylinder assembly, one ignition coil, fuel filter, windshield wiper motor, fixed droopy headlights, new HID bulbs, restored milky lenses.
Things that are broken but I can't be bothered to fix: driver seat height adj, bushings in both front upper control arms.
Always wanted to own a Jag but reliability is poor, I don't trust the car enough to take it on longer trips.
The 5sp manual gearbox is the best feature of the car. Car has good grip and neutral handling but 3700 lbs is too much weight for it to feel sporty. Averaging 20 mpg mixed, best on a hwy trip I got was 26 mpg.
Will replace soon.

Update: just turned 66K miles. Getting ~19mpg in normal street/highway use, but just took a highway-only trip and was getting ~26mpg over 50-60 miles at a steady 65 mph.
Got the car in May 2013 with ~47k miles.
Hate the way the wheels get dirty. Using stock pads.

My S-Type R is about 53k kms (33k miles).
About consumption, at 131kms/h (81.40mph, measured by GPS, fastest speed before road radars trigger in Spain) @2000rpm I got 10.3l/100km = 22.83mpg. At 150kms/h (93.20mph, GPS) @2100rpm (if I don't remember wrong) I get 10.7l/100km = 21.98mpg. Both on long trips. On city, being carefull, I get 11.5l/100km = 20.45mpg.
The tank on this car is a bit small for its consumption, it really needed a 100l tank like in my GL that has more or less the same consumption figures, but diesel. I found on pistonheads this for a s-type 4.2
Indicated refill capacity-E to F on fuel gauge...64.0 litres
Unindicated (reserve) capacity....................5.5 litres
Total refill capacity (advertised capacity)......69.5 litres
Have any of you dared to get to 0 kms range indicated by the computer? Does it keep going? I suspect that the computer is under reporting...

Usually I plan refills correctly, but this summer I got in a motorway with one quarter and I couldn't find an open petrol station, got to reserve and even to just 30km left, according to the computer, and I had already slowed down also to reduce consumption. I finally found petrol station... pfewwww...
So how much you reckon was REALLY the range left?
Just joined this forum our 2004 Silver coloured S-Type 3.0Litre V6 with 6speed auto has done 185393KM. Car runs great but the quality of the rubber bushes is crap. Have to replace RF Tie Rod inner(new tire needed) Right rear lower sub assembly to replace one bush so will do an exchange part as I don't have the tooling to fit the new bushes. Have fixed over voltage problem which caused Climate Control module to burnout components on the PC Board, very expensive repair. Heat valve replaced and we change coolant every 2 years as a precaution.
2000 s type 4.0 originally 62000 or so now 63434 I believe .

jorge911 -
I've pushed the reserve, not by choice, I was stuck on a section of highway with no gas stations for 150-200 kms. Warning light went on after about 600kms on the tank, went another 200 kms until I could get some gas, and it was only regular so I only put in 10L to get me to the next town that had premium. That 10L didn't even turn off the low fuel warning. Total on that tank before that splash of regular was just over 800 kms. Apparently Jags are capable of running on air. I have never let it get that bad since and now make sure to fill up before we have to drive any long stretch without gas stations. My pumps never got damaged, and still work fine years later, so I guess I got lucky and didn't do any serious harm, even though I was pretty sure I could just hear them sucking the last drops of fuel as I pulled up to the pump.
And the wife's STR is still running strong at the miles you can see in my sig.
