Hi dazed8,

Just based on the picture it looks fairly complete, but considering the engine issue(s) I would take a WAG of $5000 or so.

Get as much info about the car as possible, particularly any history and then start searching the internet for equivalents and see what price they are. I suspect you are in the US, but here is a list of some S Types for sale in the UK....

...for prospective purchases it is all about research.

Sounds like it will be a pretty major project after sitting 30 years coupled with the engine problem, I'd aim for more like $3K.
Let us know how it goes.
The engines are fairly straight forward to work on if you can get the parts.

My dad bought a 66 about 6 years ago for about 3500. It needed a lot of work.

I was watching Chasing Classic Cars on HDNet a few nights ago and the host, Wayne Carini, picked up a fully restored S-type 3.8 for about $16K, which he thought was a good deal. Getting to that point will take a tremendous amount of work though.

That is a good deal. That's what they were going for 10 years ago.

They drive like no other car. A similar model is the 420, which in my opinion looks even better.

And Wayne only got 15k for it at the auction. I saw that as well, and that car was mint! I'd put the one pictured here at about 3k as well.

Funny, I saw the jaguar edition on CCC, and that dude was pissed he lost money on that car...thats what you get for a no reserve auction.

It was a pretty car though, i'd like to have one.
