Default How screwed am I?

So last night I really didnt let the car (03' STR) warm up and got a little heavy on the peddle due to a nasty day at work. Imeadiate gear box failure after it pulled hard and restricted performance mode. Got home, noticed a different smell coming from the exhaust, would almost say sulfer-like, hard to describe, and its choppy at a stop or just starting. Can obvioulsy tell power isnt being distributed correctly. This morning, the check engine was on, no restricted performance or gear box warning, its at the dealer now and I am awaiting the dreaded call. So anyone have a similar situation? Ballpark figure? $1k, $2k, $3k?

blew the cam gaskets, leaking oil into the plugs, causing misfires and choppiness I was seeing. New gasket, plugs, etc... ($1100) belt on the supercharger is cracked as well, need to replace pulley/tensioner ($700), transmission lines are bad as well ($1,100).

They were nice enough to offer 15% off and a free loaner....so I am $2,600 screwed.

On a happier note the reason I did get on it was because some ahole in an XKR was riding my tail and tried to go around and pull on me. To my suprise, aftter I floored it he wasnt able to do this and I pulling car lengths on him. So for some reason my car decided to become freakishly faster than it normally is or should be (its modified, but not that much). XKR guy had a very strange look on his face (probably was more from smelling my car kill itself than from me pulling on him), and now I have a $2,600 bill. Enjoy your weekend guys, I will be cruising around in my beat-up 00' xtype loaner.

If any techs sees anything drastically wrong with these figures please let me know, I could take it to another jaguar non-dealer shop and get a better price, but I am out of town in DC and dont really have any options.

cam cover gaskets is normal, they get old, crack and leak oil into plug wells and on the outside. Supercharger belt is update with new pulleys mandatory so the the why, and since theyr there i would replace the engine belt, it 5 more mintues and another 105 on the belt. Why tranny lines? The only reason to replace those is if theyre elaking from rubbing on the power steering or ac lines by them. If not leaking they should just be pushed with a pry bar away from eech other, and yes that job suxxxx

the lines were leaking, so looks like your evaluation was right on. Thanks for the tip on changing the engine belt as well.

Hey Evan,
$2,600 to install a gasket, pulley, trans lines, and a supercharger belt!?!! thats extortionately expensive.. Please tell me you have a warranty??
How did the trans lines just go bad? I have never heard of that before..
If you want to tow it to Miami I'll do the whole job for $1k and I get the parts at cost at Jaguar.. lol good luck, sorry your weekend is starting off soo sh*tty.. Eric

Thanks for the offer, I expected to get very bent over on this and the best part is I am about a month expired on my warranty, which is why they were nice enough to offer the 15% dicsount and free loaner. So unless the loaner can tow the STR, I think the Miami trip may be out of the question. Funny though becuase I think I actually have to fly there next week for work, maybe United will let me strap it to the plane somehow?

so its $1k in parts and they want 15hrs of labor at $1,770. 15 hours seems excessive for this, I wouldnt think more than 8? Any advice techs? Its a gasket, transmission line, and belt/pulley?

No, with the lines thats pretty close. They snak around the engine, motor mount, ac comp. And trans. I cut them out, and the new linesare not bent exactly right to start and when youre done theyre even less so. Then you have to work the lines into shape and into the clamps the hold them, and at the same time get all the other lines back into position and run so they dont rub each other again. They gave you now grace on the jobs, but then again theres no overlap time except the belts and plugs 4.5+7+3= 14.5 yep pretty close. And eric, without a lift youde have wished you never volunteered when it comes to those lines
