Default Idle problems

Hi,
I have a 2003 S-Type R and it never seems to come down to a low idle. This causes problems when I am trying to just move a short distance like pulling into my garage or moving up at a stop light. It allways wants to pull. It also goes into drive hard and when I'm driving, If I take my foot off of the gas the car just keeps going at that speed. It's under warranty but the dealer keeps telling me that this is normal. I don't think so because it was fine before they reprogrammed the transmission. Is there any adjustment that can be made or a module that controls this? Also If I rev the engine it comes back down to about 900 RPM for a few seconds before it returns to a lower idle.
Thanks, Gary

Default RE: Idle problems

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. The actual resting idle is around 650 rpm but it takes a long time to get down there and it sticks at a higher idle (around 900 rpm) for several seconds even if I just tap the gas pedal . This makes it very difficult to park or pull into the garage. As far as getting it fixed, The dealer keeps telling me that they don't see anything wrong and this is all normal.

Default RE: Idle problems

the reflash for your tcm that you are referring to affects the idle dashpot to help rectify the 2-1 shift issues. the 2003 zf trans had a problem dubbed as the "lurch" and a lot of parameters were changed as well as idle dashpot to rectify this. can you give me any more info on your idle situation? as for an adjustment, there is none. you can try to do a "hard reset" by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and sometimes this helps with adaptive fueling strategies. just gimme a shout and i can see if i can help ya out!

Default RE: Idle problems

Hi,
Ok here goes. When I first got the car I did'nt have any idle or lurch problems but I did have a 1-2 shift issue. When I would start out it would nose dive in between first and second gears and then take off again. That's what I took it in for. After the reflash the 1-2 shift was much better but the idle seemed high and very slow to come down to a low idle (around 750 rpm). When I cold start it is at about 1500 rpm and then it comes down to around 900 rpm and stays there for a pertty long time before it drops to around 750 to 800. But if I rev the engine or try to move the car a short distance it sticks back up at the 900 range for a few seconds making it hard to stop and causing the brakes to make a loud grunting noise when I apply or release them. The car allways seems to want to pull. The High idle also makes it jump pretty hard and fight the brakes when I put it into drive. If it turn it off for a short time it goes thru the same routin all over again even though it's still warm. I also do now have a lurch like push right before I come to a complete stop.
I hope this helps!
If you need any more info. just let me know.
Thanks, Gary
