Default Instrument cluster pack replacement

You might recall an earlier post detailing all the messages, warning lights, chimes, etc. that my 05 V8 was throwing. Members offered several good suggestions, I tried most with no success, now I'm ready for a visit to the dealer next week.

One member, whom I would like to give recognition for all his time and thought, but whom I'm not sure wants the exposure, casually made a suggestion that the instrument pack may need to be replaced. Having already found some information on the expense of a new instrument cluster, I scouted around for a used one.

I found several that were specified for the 05, but they mostly had different part numbers. Can anyone enlighten me about Instrument Cluster Pack part numbers?

Here are the ones I have seen
XR849237
XR853380
XR853783
XR853787

None were reportedly for the R model. These were represented as for the S-type. One included the note that it was good for 05 through VIN N22450. My car is N17274. Does it matter if you have a V8 or V6? Other options?

Thanks again in advance, you all have always been generous with your knowledge and help.

I think the V6, V8 NA & STR are all somewhat different (as well as looking slightly different e.g. my STR says SUPERCHARGED).

Even with the correct one only a dealer can make it work otherwise car will go into anti-theft and refuse to start.

They seem to be very rare failures so it's about the last thing to suspect.

They contain a computer and multiple computer network interfaces. Suitable (dealer-type) OBD tools can talk to them.

Default can't leave instrument cluster face down?

Found a seller who reported that XR853380 was the replacement part number for XR849237. Agree that the Instrument Pack is not often the problem, but the cost of the used pack is $150, where as the cost of the new is near $1500. So, I can pick one up and, if needed, have it available for the dealer to install. If not needed, it was cheap insurance and I'll resell it to recoup what I can.

One more observation. Saw a JTIS print out that implied that the Instrument Pack was sensitive to being left face side down for an extended period. Can anyone enlighten me regarding this warning? Since I would have no control over how the pack gets shipped, it could be face down for a couple of days. What problem(s) might that create?
