Interchangeable engines
I have a 2005 Jaguar S type R with blown head gaskets and am going to just replace the engine. The question I have is will a normal 4.2L not designated an R model engine fit into an R type model car if i keep the supercharger, sensors, etc off the old engine and put them on the new 4.2L that did not come from and R model will it fit and work as an R model engine would. So in other words if I made the R type modifications to a regular 4.2L used engine will it work just fine and exactly as an R model designated used engine would?
Firstly welcome to the Forum.
Please do an Intro in teh New Members Area when time permits.
My gut feeling is NO.
A quicky look at part numbers shows different pistons and conrods, and that is more than likely to with compression heights etc.
I did not look further, but I doubt you could have a runner as an R should be.
They generally have lower compression ratio's to allow for the rise in compression as the boost kicks in, and piston compression heights are the key here.
Probably different valves etc also.
The people in the S Type section will know much more about this.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.
Sorry to hear about the engine disaster. Like Grant, I have a feeling your proposed replacement strategy is not going to be that straightforward.
