It's a very high precision part. Similar price on various modern cars (Lexus etc). Lucky to find one so cheap....

So I called about one of the used ones for sale and was told that the used part came out of a wrecked car that "only" had 70k miles on it. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the used one as my car has less than that and it failed.

I might consider a remanufactured throttle body for our S-Type, but I would never just go with a used one. These components are far too sensitive and prone to limp home mode failures if even the slightest amount of moisture gets into them....

True, the car runs fine though. Not sure whether to replace it or just let it go for now and see what happens.

Okay for anybody interested I found this auction and think it's the way to go. You send in your old throttle body, they rebuild and test and send it back. It has a lifetime warranty too. It was "only" $290.

I called them and asked. They were very friendly and helpful. I'll probably do this next week so I'll post up and let you know how it goes. I like the fact that you get yours back so there won't be any compatibility issues.

Sweet......and the best part it has a Lifetime Warranty! Will you be removing the Throttle Body unit yourself (DIY)? Look forward in hearing your Updates on how it goes.

Cheers.

No, I'm taking the car to my mechanic and he's going to do it and send it off. While it's there he's going to change the valve cover gaskets, SC and serpentine belts. By the time he's done with all of that the TB should be back and ready to go!

Got the TB back from UPS today. It only took about a week for the whole process, shipping both ways and the rebuild itself. It will be reinstalled the middle of the week.

Hey , This must be a common problem for a great deal of these models. I have the same car with the same problem. Engine code p1254. The following is what happens to me : If the car is turned off before the motor is fully hot the next time the car is started it will be in the limp mode. To correct this problem the car has to run long enough to get fully hot and then restarted. The same thing happens if the key is turned to the access position, without starting the car. Is this the same problem ???

Search shows that it's not common. My 2004 STR does not do what you just described. It sounds like yours has a fault. Check the codes PDF to see the known causes.

The software that came with the elm is pretty crappy and it's only a "demo" version so it won't tell me what the codes mean without paying to upgrade. What's the best way to fix this error once and for all?

That's a good price. Remember it's ESSENTIAL to look up any P1 codes in the correct jag codes PDF - and wise to look up ALL codes in there (for the specific causes listed, at least).

(P1 codes are specific to make & model & model year)

I have the same problem P1254...

CEL is on, but rarely goes into limp mode.

Did the above fix it? Anyone know if the car will pass PA inspection with a CEL light?
