Default Jaguar Car Care Tips???

Hi ,
I own a Jaguar S-type year 2000(180,000Kms), had this piece of engineering since 2007. I get it serviced from a Jaguar Service Dealer every time. It seems that they only service the normal things like Air Filters, Oil Filters, Changing Oil, Coolants, washing the car etc.
Few days back i had some issues with the car like Driver and Passenger side windows Snapping(Complete Mechanism failure), some issues with the Seats Jamming (cannot move forward or backward), Gear Throttle Jammed etc. I got all these repaired , but it costed me heaps. I came across a person who advised me that these issues could have been avoided, provided i did regular maintenance of these things like putting silicone on windows mechanism etc. I assumed Jaguar Service took care of all these things(Which is not the case).
Can someone kindly guide me as to what all car care tips i can use, so that in future i don't encounter issues like these. I assume at any given point of time preventive maintenance is always better than Breakdown Maintenance.
Thanks,
Dips

Dips2907, welcome to the forum.
We dont know what type of S type you have and it's features so put that in your signature.
There is an absolute truckload of info on this fantastic forum that has saved me thousands! You need to spent time searching through the posts.
It is a costly experience if you just need to rely on the dealers especially for the basics that any mechanic can do. One of many many examples; Silverstone here in Melbourne wanted $750 to replace the rear brake pads; ABS brakes did it for $150!
If you searched the forum you would have found that there are window repair kits that you could have bought that would have saved you hundreds. You can't prevent them from braking with silicone they are a poor quality plastic on the earlier cars. Don't slam the door with the window down.
The dealers have alot to answer for as well, but unless you know what to ask them, with the experience I have had they don't go out of their way.
