The p0741 is normally indicative of torque converter problem, not a valve body problem.
If your s-type is 3.0 then the jerking could be coils or lower breather hose.

I assume you are out of warranty.
I would take the tsb to the dealer and ask. If they won't help
you call Jag and complain to them. Ask for assistance in helping
you resolve this known issue.

Hi,
I am new to this forum and I am from U.S.
I started getting gearbox fault on my 2003 S type and now the amber engine symbol comes in and stays on.
My dealer ran diagnosis and says I need a new gearbox and will cost over 5K.
This seems to be outrageous. Can anyone share their expertise and experience in this area?
Thanks

Can you give more info? What codes did they get from TCM? Did they explain why you needed a gearbox? 5K although may sound outrageous is what they cost. You may be able to find a good used one.

Thanks for the response. They did not give any code to me. Should they have?
They say that gear 1 and 2 have problem. Car seems to run just fine.
I am puzzled. You said, I can get used gearboxes. How can I do that?

If car is running ok, I would not replace the trans until it dies and you have to tow it in.

Used trans are available at wrecking yards etc. Try and get it right away, I mean call a yard and ask them to call you as soon as one comes in so it isnt sitting there getting rusty.
Also, they are specific between 6cyl and 8cyl....and has to be in your kind of Vin range. And TCM would have to be programmed once installed.

S-Type trans are easy to replace. Can do them in an hour.

Thank you for the tip.
I have around 40 K miles on the car and overall it is beautiful and in great condition. Let us say that it runs fine for next two years and I have to sell it, no one is going to buy from me with that amber engine symbol on dashboard. So, a thought was if I have to replace that before selling, then might as well do that now. However, I do not know if the dealership is experienced enough as the manager in service quit and a new guy who took over. I doubt his intentions, expertise and experience. He should have given me the code. Should I call and ask him?
Within warranty period (Dec 2006), I complained about lurching of gears and they said they took care of it by reprogramming. Appapently I was naive and the problem was not cured and did not complain at that time. If I knew that it might result in this big expense, I would have insisted in curing that problem within warranty period.
Please advise and send your thoughts. Thank you once again.

I got the engine light too and they are replacing my torque converter. Mine is covered under SE. It's great to find a dealer that can actually find a problem and fix or at least attempt to fix it. These guys have fixed more issues in 2 visits then the other place did in about 12 visits. According to them there was never anything wrong and they charged me 120.00 per visit.

AC Imports in Palatine. They are really nice people to work with and have found and fixed many problems when other dealer said that there was nothing wrong. Also I have never paid a penny in Diag. fees. However I do have SE.

What does code P0758 stands for?
I have S Type year 2003 and the serviceman says his diagnosis gave codes P0741 and p0758.
Thanks

P0741 is for torque convertor clutch pressure regulator solenoid stuck open. P0758 is Pressure regulator solenoid 2 circuit fault. You probably need a valve body. If you need torque convertor and valve body, I would try and get a used trans first.

These are OBCII codes indicating powertrain problems with the car.
P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off
P0758 Shift Solenoid B Electrical/ 2-3 Shift Solenoid Circuit Electrical
Here are the rest of the codes: https://www.jaguarforums.com/m_5808/tm.htm

I have had the gearbox amber warning light a couple of times. When the light has come on the car feels sluggish, but otherwise fine. On turning the engine off and on again, all is fine.

I take it I should get a diagnosis.

I don't really know the 2.7 but does it even have a gearbox light?

In case you mean the MIL aka check engine light, yes get the codes but also check the usual suspects for your type of engine (see old posts and the FAQs here and on the UK forum).

You might like to get a cheap OBD device - also discussed here and (very recently) on the UK forum.

Thanks. It did it again today. This time I could not stop and realsied it was not changing gear. When I did get stopped it went into reverse with a bit if a thump but otherwise fine. Later, when I drove off again it was fine.

Could it be to do with the freezinf temperatures? I am going to take for a diagnostic anyway.
