i din't think the wheels would be legal in the U.K.

Section 40A Road Traffic Act 1988 - parts and accessories in such condition as likely to cause danger

Max fine £2500 (more if goods/pass vehicle), discretionary disq, 3 points

I was waiting for the driver to do a "Roman Battle Chariot" performance on the car in front with those wheels.

They'd also be utterly illegal in Aus, NZ, for the same reasons: projection dangerous to others, etc. In fact, if you got pulled over with them, you'd be walking home to await service of a summons by mail! The police would have an apoplectic fit.

It certainly looks like an 'S' type, must be a custom conversion. Again, I doubt that it would be likely to occur in Aus, as the engineering costs & certification for body strength would make even an oil magnate wince!

Cheers,

Languid

Down here in central South Carolina, some folks have taken to mounting HUGE 24" chrome wheels on 1990s era large American V8 sedans (Caprice Classics, Crown Vics, etc). Of course, they have to jack the cars up a foot or more to squeeze the wheels on. Looks absolutely ridiculous in my opinion..

Not to mention the questionable wisdom of mounting $5,000.00 wheels on a $500.00 car....

The rims you see on the convertible jag are called 84's or swangas also have some 83's.. These rims came stock on cadillacs back in 1984 and 1983. The rims were Made by the company Cragar orignally, but such high demand came from these wheels in houston texas that they were remade in bigger sizes and diffrent styles. Now people around the u.s purchase these rims to put on their vehicles. These rims are not cheap and usually wrapped with Vouge tyres which give them that original look the had on 1980s

I beg to differ with you. We had a 1984 Eldorado Biarritz and it did not have these wheels. The cadillacs came with Wire Wheel covers as standard equipment,

DallasDave,

Yes you can, but the Gendarmes tend to take a dim view of proceedings and want to lock you up afterwards!

Cheers,

Gosh, with those wheels I'm reminded of this famous movie sequence

BEN HUR - CHARIOT DEATH SCENE - YouTube

But I do like the look of the convertible S-type.

Maybe Charleton Heston should have ordered one?
