Default Coil question

As many of you know I just had #2 coil replaced. I've had many cars with coils on each bank and this is the first car that had one go out.

Should I be looking to replace the other 7 coils in the near future?

I want to add something here. In the reliability thread someone was saying you have to pay to play, meaning a Jag is an expensive car so parts are expensive.

I say nay-nay. I was looking up ignition coils for my Jag and thought to look them up for my girls 07 Honda Civic. The civic coils on the high side ($80.00 per coil) are literally twice as expensive as the Jag coils ($40.00 per coil) on the high side. Whats so funny about this is that total for 4 honda coils and 8 Jag coils is the same!

Ignition coils are a common repair in many different cars. My understanding (limited) is that they're not hard to replace yourself. The hard part is diagnosis, which sometimes involves moving wires and coils around to determine which part is faulty. As you noticed can be bought for far less online than a shop will charge.

If you do have the same symptoms again, I'd definitely suspect another coil. But probably no need to do they preemptively.

In shops I've used, labor is charged by fractions of an hour, not whole hours.

Our 2006 S-Type 3.0 is a really reliable car--as good as our stoic Volvo or venerable Honda van. Just standard maintenance items (e.g., battery, brakes, tires) so far. "A ride with style" a recent passenger remarked. My wife has noticed that I am much more relaxed when I drive in East Coast traffic in the Jag than in our other cars. She is right. Great therapy! Now, we may have purchased a "cherry" but we are very pleased and will buy another Jag in the future.

At the moment, it looks like we'll be a single response short even for the 2003. So no stats at all for the S-Type going forward unless at least a few more owners participate. I'm a fan of these cars, especially the R, so I'm hopeful

As I feared, no stats for the S-Type this round. Maybe next time? It will depend on how many owners sign up and respond.

Ah, we know the info. None worth having - take a look up the thread.

This is about his firm making money. He ought to be a site sponsor but looks to be too cheap to be that.

As I think has been covered at least once before, I have permission from the forum to post. And if you think there's a significant amount of money, even enough to cover a minimal sponsorship, to be made from reliability information for the S-Type, you're thoroughly mistaken.

BS like this is why more people don't engage in projects that would benefit everyone. There truly is no good deed that goes unpunished.

I won't speculate as to whether or not your intentions are to financially profit from folks who sign up for your reliability studies. But I will say that given the relatively small number of S-Types sold around the world combined with the general lack of demand for these cars nowadays, you may be wasting your time by continuing to crunch the numbers....

There's little additional time involved other than posting here. And I've always liked the cars personally. So if enough owners participate I'll keep crunching.
