Default Jaguar S Type Sticks in 1st Gear

Hi i have a Jaguar S Type 3:0 litre Auto 2002. I don't drive it very often only when i fancy treating myself. I have a intermittent problem, sometimes when moving off in traffic, the car doesn't move up through the gears and remains in 1st and revs high. If i put it in neutral and try again it usually works fine. Any ideas Jaguar lovers?

How many kilometres/miles are on the vehicle?

Has the gearbox ever been serviced? I you have a 2002 MY, it has the ZF 6HP26 gearbox, which may be low on fluid.

Perform a search of this forum as there are many threads discussing issues with this gearbox.

Hi NB Cat thanks for your reply, the car has 117,000 miles on the clock i have only owned it since last September. I can't find any documentation regarding gearbox fluid changes. I will get a price on that and see how i go. Thanks again

You have the Ford 5R55N trans. Check the shift cable first. Could be stretched or out of adjustment.

If the OP has a MY2002, it could also be the ZF 6HP26 if the vehicle is in Europe.

It could also be a 2001, as I'm pretty sure as it's the UK the 2002 will be year of registration and not MY.

I guess the VIN is the best way to tell with vehicles of this vintage given the different ways each country designates the year.
