Just another exhausting thread...
Last week I had the opportunity to have a local speed shop fabricate an exhaust system for my 2005 S-Type R. My system retains the stock cats and the short section of 2.25" pipe post cats up to the flange. I will update that section at a later time. After the flange, I went with 2.5" pipe (as straight as possible), with a 2.5" x-pipe, no resonator back to twin 14" long Magnaflow mufflers (2.5" inlet/outlet) and twin 4" magnaflow resonated tips. My system uses all the factory mounting points and retains the OEM "sections" so it's brainless to uninstall and reinstall.
Here are the part numbers:
1x Magnaflow Tru-X X-Pipe #10791
2x Magnaflow Muffler 14" #12226
2x Magnaflow 4" tips #35121
Since I did not replace my cats and I still have a section of 2.25" pipe, I figured there would be just a little performance gain from removing the resonator and adding the flow benefits of an x-pipe. It feels very nice at WOT. My seat-of-the-pants says it helps quite a bit on the upper RPM band. Around town I did not notice any loss of torque. There is a slight drone from 1500-1800 RPM but that drone is either softening or I'm getting used to it. At first, I thought I would need to add some resonators or something to quieten it up.. but now.. I like it the way it is. On the highway at normal load you can just hear the engine purr.. no drone.
I decided to have the installer slightly rotate the tips on the mufflers. This way, when looking down, you see the tips contour with the bumper. I like that look and it gives it a certain custom kind of look.
Here are some pics and a quick idle/rev to 4k rpm video below:
Here's a video of the car at startup, idle and reving to 4k RPM. The popping is onlyl becuase the motor is cold. When it's warm you don't get any popping. 720p HD Video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1Nuo7mC-I0

Whoa! Nice Nixx. When you slap on the Magnaflow hi-flo cats you may want a set of Dynomax glass packed tube mufflers prior to the Magnaflows cause if you think she's louder now....? I discarded the Magnaflow mufflers in favor of Dynomax Super Turbos in order to gain back the low end torque lost by the Magnaflows. Though I was mesmerized by the Magnaflow sound IMO she sounds deeper with the Super Turbos, plus low end torque is there on the very bottom end again. Otherwise yer girl is on her way to being a "dominatrix".
