Default Just bought a 04 S type R today... well sort of...

Hey everyone. I just agreed on the purchase of an 04 S type R. I'm taking delivery on Thursday.

Man, I'm so pumped up. This is a huge step up from my 02 4.0l v8. The suspension, brakes, and engine are soooo much better than my last jag. The midrange power is so much better.

The car feels like a pretty good starting point for my mods. I picked up an alcohol injection kit last week and I'm going to order a set of h&r springs this week. I'm hoping to get it dyno'd and then send off the blower for a port. Once I get those things done, I'm about done with this car unless I can find someone to do a tune for the cpu. I do almost all of my work myself, so this should keep me busy over the next few weeks; in addition, the vette is taken apart and getting ready for me to paint it. I have a ton of car projects going on right now!

Oh yeah, one thing that I will probably do is modify the cold air intake setup on the car right now. The car has a cone type filter attached to the stock inlet. I may swap out the stock l shaped tubing for larger mandrel bent stuff. I might try to come up with some type of ram air setup to feed the engine cool air exclusively.

One thing that I did like about the car that I didn't know about, it already has satelite radio installed so the original owner must have bought the auxillary box which is several hundred bucks. That was something I was going to do anyway, so that made me happy.

Anyhow, stay tuned for the build thread. I also go by the same screen name on the corvette forum and have extensive experince with supercharged setups, so if you'd like to check out some of my past projects, you can check out that forum as well. Hopefully I'll be able to do some cool stuff with this car and get the numbers up around the 400 rwhp mark.

They are different than stock.....I have 3" double wall tips and they fit perfect......the chrome wheels are not my style, but I bet you can sell the to a regular S Type owner that has chrome accents on his ride.....and pick up a nice set of wheels....

Thanks guys. I'm excited to have a cool project to share on the forum.

The exhaust is aftermarket. It has magnaflows on there with the stock resonators left intact. It's got a very nice exhaust note. It's subtle but sounds good. It's actually a little too subtle for my taste so I may change to an x pipe in the long run. Yeah, the tips are a little over the top, but oh well.

As for the wheels, I think it looks pretty decent. I have a customer that was the prior owner of HRE and has a new brand. They recently merged with Klassen (spelling) so maybe I'll see what kind of deal I can score on some wheels. First things first though, I'm going to lower it and see how it looks then. If I still don't care for it then I'll swap the wheels. I'm more into the peformance aspects of the car, so that's where the first money will go.

By the way, I need to call the dyno to see if they can work me a deal for the before and after dyno's after I get the blower ported.

Thursdays are race night at the local track. That would be hilarious if I take the car to the drags the first day I own it!

How much is handling improved? How is the ride effected? I live in NYC: home of horrible roads, potholes, and more nooks and crannies than an English muffin.

congrats on the new car, H&R springs are a must and you will love it. I took mine to the track the 3rd day and it still had the paper plates I was given by the dealer. I was at a car show 2 days after that so just have fun with it its a special car.

Nice car, I like the colour but the 4" tips need to go. 3" looks far better.

Welcome to the land of "R"

Great lookin car. But, I'm puzzled by the front plate, is that a new one for Calif.???
Also the Rusnak paper plate on the rear, is the dealer where you got it a spin off from Rusnak ?? Just curious, since Rusnak is where I got mine 2 years ago.

Congrats on the car! I've had mine for 6 weeks now and I absolutely LOVE it! My Mina exhaust and upper pulley (along with the lower grilles and alum pedals..lol) will be installed next week - I hope to have the time to dynoit before and after. My next mod I'm thinking are the springs so it's good to see some comments on it. How much for it and how much of a PITA to install yourself?
