Default Just Bought an S-Type!

Hi All,

I'm new here, just bought a 2005 3.0 with 67,000 miles. Car runs great and previous owner always garaged it. Been trolling the forum while looking for the right one and appreciate all the useful posts and tips on what to look for. This seems like a great community and I look forward to more interaction. My new toy is stock with the exception of 18" Verde Kaos rims that the previous owner had installed. I think they look pretty nice on the S-Type. I won't be doing any exceptional mods, except for maybe de-ambering. I hate that look on the car (I de-ambered my Mazda Millenia and it looked soo much better). I found the clear side repeaters, but wish there was a better option for the bumper lights than spraying them with tint. Well, just wanted to introduce myself and thank all the contributors!

Welcome to the forum. I've only been here a few weeks myself and I can confirm what you already have sensed, that the group here is extremely knowledgable, helpful, and with a good sense of humor to boot (not to be confused with trunk). Cheers....gee, now they even have me saying it.

Congrats on the purchase. If the car in your avatar is yours, it looks really nice. I have had mine for about 2 months now and still loving it. We are taking it on a short road trip this weekend. This will be the first time taking it on an extended drive, so I am really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the info! I'll check it out. I do most of my own maintenance and repairs if I can & I have a buddy who's a certified mechanic for complex problems. Have to do an oil & filter change and take a look at the air & cabin filters too. I'll replace the air filter with K&N when needed. Other than that, I think I'm good, saw no visible leaks underneath on inspection, but will check more indepth when I do oil change. Wish there were a better option for connecting an ipod though. $300 for an interface seems excessive. 14gig of music on my ipod and no more cd's = I'll be burning a couple till I can figure out a good solution. I ordered a Monster iCarPlay 1000 FM transmitter, not a big fan of those, but for $20 shipped, figured I'd give it a try. Got mixed reviews as they all do, so we'll see...

Welcome to the Club!!
I changed my stereo to Pioneer x710BT (NAV, BT, ipod) unit. It's working quite well for me. Look into Audio/Visual Electronics section. I posted the information on stereo replacement using Metra kit.

Welcome, Marc. My wife's S-Type is the same model year and color. We still love it after about two and a half years of ownership. Probably the best bang-for-the-buck vehicle I've ever purchased....

As has already been pointed out by others, there are a number of commom issues that afflict these cars. Most can be resolved by a decent DIY guy which you certainly seem to be. Study the FAQ section to gain the majority of the knowledge you'll need to address just about everything that may pop up. There's a tremendous amount of experience here on the forum that will always chime in when you ask for help. Take full advantage of it....

Yeah, I put a Pioneer AVIC head unit in my Mazda some time ago with NAV, Backup Cam, Amp, Subs, etc...2 day install with all the wiring and sat antenna, cam install. I tend to go overboard if I get started. lol. I like the sound of the factory Jag Stereo, just want to add my ipod. Have a Harmon Kardon Drive + Play in my truck, which works pretty good, but that has a screen and click wheel that needs to be mounted, don't want to do that. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check the electronics section for any tips to add ipod integration. Hopefully my cheapo Monster unit will work till I can figure out something more permanant.
