I bought an S Type back in February & still finding out 'how it works' but, today - through my ignorance of the cars features - I found that it has folding wing mirrors that don't work properly. The local independent specialist says they'll have to be replaced as he believes that the inner workings are corroded.
Has anyone had experience of malfunctioning wing mirrors & any idea of the size of bill I could be facing?

Firstly, welcome to the forum.
When time permits, please do an Intro in the New Members Area.
My mirrors were expensive, and mine has NO auto folding feature, and the insurance paid, luckily.
I would get some lube spray, WD40 etc etc and using the tube nozzle attachment spray up inside as best you can, which is a hit and miss coz ya cant see diddly in there. What more harm are you going to do????
Then decide if you REALLY need that feature, and adjust the "to do list" accordingly.

Hi,
Others have had this problem.
folding mirrors - Jaguar S-Type Club - Jaguar Owners Club.
Powerfold mirrors ? Jaguar Super V8
When you post don't put your handle in the title. I would put the problem then more people who know the answer will read it.

How did you discover this? If it was by reading the Owner's Handbook then you don't necessarily have the powerfold feature fitted to your vehicle.

Had the same when i bought my S type, both powerfolds not working.
My Jaguar specialist advised my to regular spray them with WD40 and after a few days both where working again.
My advise try this first before replacing etc. might save u some bucks

+1 to the lube spray advice, but I would recommend all owners with power mirrors go even further (whether with or without powerfold feature). Give a short spray using the long applicator that plugs into the can nozzle, each month or so . . . we have it listed on our periodic maintenance sheets . . . and you will most likely keep them working. Our S-Type and XK8 both have powerfold and neither these nor our somewhat older, different power mirrors on our other models have ever shown any problems.
Cheers and best wishes,
Ken

Still in the early phases of testing in my garage, but it looks promising so far. This mirror issue looks like a good application for it. For your further consideration: Learchem's ACF-50.
I was given two free 1 oz. Samples at the recent HAI Expo in Dallas, subsequently purchased item 292012011503 from eBay.
