Default Kitty had a melt down!

So there I was. Sitting at a stop light, on my way to meet a freind for dinner. The light turned green and my check engine light comes on and the car goes into limp mode. The temp gage was pegged. WTF. No warning at all. I quickly pulled into the closest parking lot and shut it down. When I popped the hood there was coolant everywhere but not leaking from any hoses.

Hard too see anything under there in bright sunlight so I started feeling around trying to find a leaker. I grabbed the hose running straight up out of the water pump and felt a very large split up the back side. Great. Not just a leaky hose clamp.

I called my friend to let him know what happened and had him bring tools.

We got the hose off and took it to the parts store. No exact match so we went in back and found one that was the same shape and cut the excess off.

One new hose, two hose clamps, a "T" connector for vacuum lines(broke in the removal process) and two gallons of antifreeze later, Forest is back on the road.

I think I might go ahead and replace the remaining hoses before another melt down occurs.

Just be glad you were not ripping down the highway in some out of the way place!

Glad it worked out for you

Sucks to hear for sure! Replacing the hoses is probably the best option, and using as many as you can from your local auto parts store vs Jaguar is sure to save some money!

Glad you caught it when you did. Ruptured coolant hoses have baked many a head gasket....

I'm not sure if I'm out of the woods yet. Woke up Friday morning to a puddle of coolant on the floor. Don't know if it was just left over drainage or if there is another leak. Didn't have time to look into it. I'm out of town til Monday. Luckily it's not a daily driver for me.

Thumbs up Update - leak found

I found the leak. I could let the engine get warm and no obvious leaks. I could go for a drive and park it and no leaks. Only after letting it sit overnight did I see a puddle on the floor.

After driving it for a bit and getting the engine really warm I looked at all the hoses for any sign of a leak and could not see any. I finally caught a break when I was looking at the hose clamp on the new hose. A single drop of coolant fell. It hit the warm engine and evaporated. A minute later and another drop fell. Only after the engine cooled the coolant could get all the way to the floor.

I tightened the hose clamp and no more leak. But, I don't think the replacement hose is the answer. I had to cut a hose that "fit" so it might not be exactly the right diameter.

Looks like a trip to the dealer to get the right parts.
