Default Knock sensor part # problem

my 03 str has 2 knock sensors that look the same in every way. The dealer said each side has there own part number but they dont know why.

Autozone shows each side has a different plug thats why they have different part numbers.

Has anyone had this problem before?

I cant wait to order another sensor, if I install 2 of one side sensors what problems could I have? I cant think of how they could function differently

I'd understand and wouldn't be surprised that you'de be frustrated with this...You'll need to first establish wether the sensors are the same/different.

What we have here..........is a failure to communicate! [Cool Hand Luke]

For 2003, the STR uses TWO identical knock sensors, part number AJ85676.

The normally aspirated 4.2L has two different sensors, one AJ85676 like the STR on the LH bank, and one AJ84433 on the RH bank. On the NA engine the connectors are different to make them idiot proof because the leads both go off the engine on the LH side, above the LH fuel rail.

Somebody [plural] wasn't clear exactly what engine you were inquiring about, go figure!

Good luck!

absolutely, they are huge assets to this forum. Jaguar should use there techs to train the parts department employees. My local autozone store has more knowledge about car parts then my local jag parts dept.

Thanks guys! Glad to help.

But the way I read this, your AutoZone guy didn't know a super from a non-super, either.

Cheers,
