Default LED DRL on STR

I decided to join the LED DRL club today. I picked up a pair of flexible, side projecting LED strip lights. They are the type you can trim to fit, every 3 lights, but I used the entire length.

Self-adhesive backed and pretty slim they fit perfectly in the outer lower intake openings. I have them set all the way back, flush against the grill. Wired to only come on in the "run" key position.

As Much As I've Wanted To Do This, I Feel There's No Way To Do It Without Making It Look "Cheap". What's The Round Piece In The Lower Grill?

looks to be a job well done... i want to add some sort of drl or fog light as well... but i dont want to go the audi, and copied by 50% of car makers there after....maybe ill do an aftermarket HID fog light in the same power as my factory's so they match when all are on...

In my opinion BMW stole a march on the competition in general, and Jaguar in particular, with that circular ring of daytime lights that looks for all the world like some hunting animal with hooded eyes creeping up behind me.

If I could find something like that designed for the STR, I'd give it serious consideration, even if the damn thing was made in China, as long as it didn't detract from the classical front-end appearance of the car when not in use.

The more distracting the better. Always good to distract drivers in case they'd otherwise drive carefully.

you can buy aftermarket halos with fogs.... the trick , imo, is mounting them in a way and space that looks factory and not some cheap add on...like neon wiper blades....... im thinking centering then in the lower side grills , behind with the grill cutout to accomadate the lens

Not sure I'm a fan. Looks cheap. No offense to you Bad Cattitude. Love the idea but anytime anyone adds something like this it just doesn't look right. Audi & BMW set the bar high! Will be very hard to do something that looks super clean and elegant!

I like the idea, and some LED treatment would help tremendously in updating the retro look of the S-type, but deploying it in a way so it appears factory, and doesn't look cheap or a tacky addon is damn near impossible on this car or any other car for that matter.

Then again, I have the eye of an expert; the average onlooker may see your STR + LED DRL's and be wowed and think it looks brilliant...

This Is Exactly How I Feel On The Subject...You Just Worded It Better Then I Did In The First Post. I've Been Toying With The Idea Of Putting CCFL(Not LED) Rings In The Headlights Around The Projector Housing..

Thanks for the feedback. I was not sure how I would like them, so I did not put much $ into the project in case I change my mind. (also 100% removable without any damage)

Not a fan but I like your creativity. IMO the audi, bmw, kia, hyundai, led strip business is all nonsense. BMW did it right with the halos back in the around the turn of the century and I think currently Mercedes has a nice soft glow strip on its higher end models, but beyond that its a fad I hope goes away soon.

However, that really small yellow filament bulb in the top right or left of the low beam lens can be easily replaced by an led from superbrightleds.com. takes about 5 minutes to install and total cost is $7. make sure you pick the same temperature as your low beam and it completely updates the look of the car.

I believe its a 194 wedge, mine are 5 leds count in cool white, not sure if they still make those, but you have to pick the right size:

Miniature Wedge Wedge Bulbs | Specialty & Automotive | Universal LED Bulb Finder | Super Bright LEDs
