Default LED Parking Lights Stay On!!

First off, Hello fellow jag owners! First time I ventured onto your forums.. had a quick question for a problem I have run into

I had purchased a set of these LED lights for my parking lights on my 2005 Jaguar X-type, and they work just fine.

I recently purchased the same set for my brothers 2003 Jaguar S-Type for his parking lights and I have run into a problem.

The lights work and are bright as expected but when the vehicle is off, the LED lights have a very dim glow to them... What is the problem? Do I need a different type of LED bulb or ..... ????

Anyone ever run into this problem or have any knowledge on what type of LED bulb to get for the S?

Thanks in advanced!!!

I have the same problem with my STR. They usually go off within 15 min after the car being off. I also put led reverse lights in and a funny thing. The center led stays on all the time when the car is on. It looks pretty cool... I'll post a pic.

JagXType, the running lights are controlled via the computer. It is possible that there is a small amount of current still flowing in the circuit. Because the LED lights are glowing very faintly, that is telling me that they are pulling a very minute amount of current and I would not worry about it. You would need to have these lights on for a week or so before you would even see a reducing in the cranking speed of your car. You didn't notice it with the old bulbs as there wasn't enough power to make the filaments glow. The battery saver relay will turn off the lights after a few minutes. So, no need to worry.

Thermo, I see your great help around the whole site, not only the X-type section!

Thanks a lot

JagXType, I like to do the rounds. I have a lot of knowledge that can be applied to all vehicles. But then, I am contemplating opening up my own car repair shop and this gives me the chance to stretch my wings and get a bit more information in my head.

NO WORRIES! I was aware of this issue when i was buying my LEDS. I asked the guy at the place I was getting them from if it would drain the battery and he said "absolutely not". They use more or less, NOTHING in regards to electricity/voltage. I believe I started a whole thread on this topic. Anyways, mine "glow" until the car goes into sleep mode, and honestly I think it looks pretty damn cool and have gotten some compliments. They also start glowing when you unlock the car. Granted I am talking about very small parking light bulbs on the SType, not sure the size you have on the X. But I wouldnt even give it a second though if I were you.

Just for reference, a normal battery for our cars is rated at about 80 amp hours of stored energy (ie, if you pulled 80 amps out of the battery, it would last 1 hour). In the case of the LED lights, under normal conditions, they are going to be pulling around 100 milliamps (0.1 amps) each. When they go into the "dim" mode (ie, car turned off, doors locked), for the LEDs to dim, they probably are only pulling in the neighborhood of 1-2 milliamps. So, even if you have 20 lights that are lit, you are only pulling 40 milliamps (0.040 amps) worst case. So, over the course of 1 day (24 hours), you have still pulled less than 1 amp hour out of the battery (assuming the lights never turned off, even though the battery saver will turn them off after 15 minutes). The normal computer loads of the car pull more power than that just for protecting the memory of the creature comforts. So, don't worry about it. Hopefully these numbers help to explain things a little better than a simple "I think they would do this" explanation.

If you want to know anything else about LEDs, let me know. I have done a "few" things with LEDs. I got bored and created some LED tail lights for my truck that ended up using 390 LEDs per tail light. Nothing big you understand. LMAO. I am in the process of converting the lights on my Jag over to LEDs using my own LEDs, not the store bought units. I get a lot more control over what the look will be and costs me tons less too. Just requires a bit more work on my end.

if it really really bothers you, you can wire a small 194 bulb behind the actual light and it wont do that anymore. I wouldnt really bother with it unless it is really annoying though

Thanks guys! I put mine in and couldn't figure out why they wouldn't shut off, so I returned them. It looked AWESOME! I only waited like 10 minutes because I thought it would drain the battery.
