Long Shot on a rattle
OK OK
I know this is a really long shot, I have a 2006 Jaguar S Type R and ever since I have owned it about 8 months there has been a rattle NOT a thunking but a rattle, IF I go over a speed bump no problem BUT a few little ruts in the road and I hear a metallic rattle, let me tell you what I have done as it 'appears' to be coming from the front and I did not do this work because of the rattle I did it because that car has 168,00 miles on it.
All front suspension components replaced, most of the rear components replaced everything checked both front and rear, Engine mounts replaced catalytic converters replaced (check engine light on) brake dust shield not touching.
A local garage want to charge me $200 to diagnose I can fix what they find BUT is this a waste of $200, and yes I will say hey guys if you can't find it no charge.
BUT before I go down that road has anyone else had this problem ?

G'day Jagvette,
A long shot perhaps but I had a similar rattle in my car which I thought was coming from behind the dashboard and even though I took most components of the dash off trying to track the rattle down I had no luck.
Then by chance I read a post on these forums by a guy with the same problem it was the forward top edge of the the dash rattling against the bottom of the winscreen causing the problem. I shoved some pieces of foam rubber into that space and presto problem gone.
Might be worth a try.
Cheers,
Jeff.

I second that. It’s a pest to do, but worth it in the long run. If you do, get good quality bushes, not the cheapest you can find. Many aftermarket rubber bushes look good but don’t last 12 months before crumbling to bits. Use a trusted big name brand, genuine parts, or a quality polyurethane replacement.
