Default Long tube headers interest??

Hey all, asking all who have an S-Type R or S-Type 4.2L V8 if anyone would be interested in a set of Long tube headers for our cars. The more the merrier!

Before I work on a set of long tube headers I need to know if it is worth pursuing if there is enough interest.

If anyone knows that the engine bay and exhaust routing is the same for the XKR and XJR, let me know and I will post to those forums as well.

Some were available before but no-one wanted them.

Been done before and they could not sell them!!
Stainless Works made these for the Lincoln LS/Thunderbird/ Jaguar S type V-8's.
Some small differences in the EGR hookup between the Lincoln and Jag motors.

Here they are installed on a Thunderbird. Note the convertible under body brace Ford added to the DEW chassis.

They were about $1200. Sold one pair that was passed around between some Jag and LS guys. Finally an LS guy installed them. A real bitch and he said he would never do it again!

But would be cool to see someone make another run at it!

I think Caldoofy was trying to get some headers & hi-flo cats made but not sure if there were any takers on that either.

I know the S-Type R is really cramped back there, are they sure they would fit? I would love to buy a set if they were any cheaper than 1200$ and provided a serious gain in performance.

To get much more HP you need to work on the front of the engine e.g. better charger. The exhaust doesn't seem to matter much until much bigger HP.

Yeah that will eventually be the next move, however I need to get that exhaust more free flowing, i genuinely believe there is roughly 50 hp hiding from the super short restrictive stock exhaust manifolds and small 2 inch pipes. Long tube headers and 3 inch pipes with an X-pipe and resonators would definitely provide a gain, and i know about exhaust velocity and back pressure to provide enough low end torque.

Bear in mind avos got to 600HP and then 700HP. When (if ever) did he need to worry about the exhaust?

Yes nothing is available and all of it was pretty short lived. Just no demand.
Avos stopped selling his twin screw kits and I don't know if he ever sold one for the STR?

Plus are you willing to spend about $6000? That's a lot to put in a STR.

I actually did some STR under hood measurements for Avos when he was working on that version of his kit. I think the STR has the tightest installation of the 4.2L SC V-8 engine.

You could contact Stainless Works but it's been several years at least and the STR is even less popular now.

You can always just make it louder? Not sure you would gain much. It's surprising how well designed it is from Jaguar. You really need to improve on the factory technology like going to a twin screw. Stuff like exhaust/intake even a tune and ported blower just add very small amounts of power.

You might consider adding a LSD as we FINALLY have one and I think it's still available?

It's come down in price a good bit since I last checked too!
£900. I really feel this should have been factory on my old 2005 STR.

Actually you might contact Paramount and have a talk?

Here is a pretty good thread with pictures of the LSD install. It's a 1999 XJR so might be a little different but not much.

Twin screw kit is definitely on the agenda for my car, I was hoping to do it on a much tighter budget, finding either a used unit or a different branded supercharger and either self designing or buying the adapter plates. As for the long tube headers if stainless works does it for a good price I’d consider it, the goal isn’t just to make it as loud as possible, the point of the headers is better engine cooling, better flow, better mpg, and better performance, also producing a much more exotic, wild and beautiful engine noise. As for the LSD, that is very crucial to me, however I was wondering what the compatibility was between a Mustang lsd and the STR diff. There’s an extremely long talk about it, but no definitive answer, why buy a 1000+$ LSD when I can buy an American LSD for much much cheaper to do the same job (I’m also in the United States so buying something from the UK vs the US would increase the cost even more, and like you said these cars aren’t worth much so no point in over spending.)

but I need the supercharger upgrade to be available soon for when my supercharger decides to act up on me, I decided to spend all money that would go to modifying and maintaining the stock supercharger to go to that twin screw. LSD needs to happen ASAP since I have to change my diff seals, mounts and fluid anyways, so if anyone has any info on a Mustang LSD or Lincoln LS LSD please let me know.

thansk guys, I know I’m difficult but I just want my dreams to come true lol

Use the search function for this forum regarding the attempts at installing different differentials from other vehicles. The PCM will show warnings about incorrect gear ratio.

You may want to check this website:

They have nothing on their website, and I’ve used the search function plenty, I have never seen a definitive “yes” to a Mustang or Lincoln LS LSD fitting and working properly. The “incorrect gear ratio” error message will not come up if you replace strictly the inner guts of the diff and leave the gears alone which is my intentions, you’re referring to a full pumpkin swap or gear change. A big project I don’t care about doing because I’d rather have the better mpg.

I’m aware I’m extremely late to the convo but I can’t help the year I was born in lol. Is there any way you’d still have a set of these or could make a set? For a S type R
