Default Looking to buy my first Jag. A 2005 S-type R

It has only 35k miles on it and looks mint. Has 2-tone leather (black/silver).

I am not too familiar with the Jaguar brand and this would be my first. I was hoping to get some input from the community here on what to look for specifically with Jag's or things I should be asking the seller before buying.

It's priced at 16440. It also has dvd player/monitor in head rests.

Also what MPG do fellow S-Type R drivers get?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Welcome to the forum,

I've moved your post here as the S guys will see it and give you their opinions.

At first glance it looks like a reasonable deal to me, the silver black combination sounded odd, but looks good in the pics.

Welcome

If you're lucky, someone may live close enough to go over it with/for you - more about where it is? Link to the ad?

The rims are non-standard I think. Need to check they're safe, at least.

Worth posting the VIN so we can tell you more about what it should/does have.

Punisher, she's a low mileage beaut., loaded too! Wheels are not stock, likely inferior and def. don't belong on this calibre of car; thus knock off a grand. The asking price seems reasonable. Check her over carefully, CarFax, and bring to a qualified mechanic. If all's well, offer a firm $15,200.

Have you driven the car yet?

There are a lot of threads here with a topic similar/same as yours. Suggest doing a search and perhaps read up, then determine if anything in those threads warrants additional comment/question.

At face value, the deal seems reasonable. Those are definitely not OEM wheels, and appears the Nav cd is missing or not loaded (Nav unit is in the trunk, panel on the left).

MPG varies based on driving style and such. Expect anywhere from 14 to 18 around town, maybe up to 26mpg on the highway. I get right around 19 in mixed driving right now. If you can control your right foot, you can get decent fuel economy. Most cannot however. Too much fun.

I'm supposed to let this chap listen to you? Are you serious? Seth, the guy has to buy the car before you tell him to put pulleys and chillers on it!

If you can get the price down to $15200, that would be ideal , just like Bfsgross mentioned. Car looks sweet no doubt, but those chrome wheels definitely have to go IMHO those look way to gaudy on that STR. Good Luck.

If the carfax is clean and it's mechanically sound, I think $16440 is very fair...Not to say, it isn't worth while to try to get 'em to come down, but if the seller's firm, it's a good deal...

Rims look like 20s to me, owner probably wanted more bling...The exhaust tips aren't stock, probably at least has aftermarket mufflers and possibly a full exhaust system...This car has the aluminum trim package (most have wood trim) I'm GUESSING you get different seating surfaces with the aluminum trim...I think the entire interior is stock.

Hard to tell from the picture but see if the headrests have PIPING on them, if they do the owner added an OEM monitors after the fact; the kit is only like $130 yet there is a ton of labor...

Make sure you get the thing checked out; transmissions and certain coolant leaks could potentially cost you $1000s...

Chris, this guys STR is mine after he buys it... I founded NSTRLB (No STR Left Behind) as a means to assure every STR become empowered and reaches its full potential.

That is a great price. I would buy that thing blind for that price. Cars tend to be a little more expensive here in West Palm Beach. Buy it and dump the rims immediately haha. I wouldn't even drive it off the lot on those wheels haha.

God Bless you Seth!

As long as NSTRLB doesn't turn into a bloated federal program, I am IN!

Those wheels definitely have to go at some point, but if he can live with them for now and pick up the car, then we'll have another STR owner on board.

OP - keep us in the loop with your buying decision!! Let us know your impressions on driving the car or anything that comes up - we are here to help (you buy an STR )

Does it come with the NAV disc? If not theres $200.00

Two key FOBs? If not add another $300.00 ea.

Defintely dump those rims!

And... I agree with all the above, seems like a good deal!

I think that's a very good price it the car is clean and without mechanical issues.

It also has some very rare interior options with the seats and metal facia trim. Very nice indeed.

Yes the mileage varies. The best I ever did was 22.9 mpg on the highway.

Two weekends ago a long 5 hour highway trip netted us 20.9.

Around town I get 13-14 and at times as low as 11.

Don't expect to save on gas expense with this car.

It also has a very small tank for a car that gobbles the gas pretty quickly when you push it. Practically speaking it's a 16 gallon tank because it contains 4 gallons you can really use. Search about that one.

They're beautiful cars and a blast to drive. Besides that they're cheap to buy.

There are some issues with repairs but no total disasters or constant issues that I've found.

One unique to this model is the "under the supercharger coolant hose".

Gawd that's a lot of car for the money.

Go for it.

No good in winter weather. But that would be criminal anyway ...

I just bought an STR in Sept. No regrets at all. Car is awesome to drive and stunningly beautiful. I also have the 2 tone leather in my and it is rare. Very nice though. I have to agree with everyone here though, lose the rims. They make the car look "cheap". I think the price is quite resonable barring any mechanical issues. I would definitely check. Jags can be expensive to repair. Don't worry about gas milage. I'll be blunt, you're not going to get good gas milage. I don't know what I get in mines, but I have a Chevy Tahoe with intake and exhaust mods and it's better on gas. The good news is you're not going to care. This car is so much fun to drive, gas mileage will be the least of your concerns. I sometimes drive mines to get items at the supermarket we don't need, just to drive it. And I'll go to the supermarket 30 miles away rather than the one that's 3 miles away. It's that much fun!!! Did I mention, Verrrrry Fast! Anyway, I wish you luck and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mines. I'm sure you will!!!

As far as Nav discs, keep your eye out in the classifieds, someone is always selling their old Nav disc for cheap. I bought a 2008-2009 Nav disc for $35.

Was it str8 up plug n' play since your system is of the older 03' model and you are using an 08'-09' disc in it? I would think there would be some kind of comparability issues.
