Default Lost my windshield today

So my insurance covers all but $100 which is good and I've used safelite before for the round pock marks damage on other cars but this crack is 2 foot long and so it's new windshield time.

Is there anything special I need to consider about having it done on this car?
Dealers usually farm this out anyway so I thought I'd have them do it in my driveway.

thanks.

If you can post the cost of the windshield. I have a few chips that have not turned into a crack yet but might in the future.

Coincidence here..We just had the windshield replaced on the Maxima yesterday morning. What started out as a very small pit from a street sweeper (about midway up the "A" piller and about an inch in) ended up being a line 14" across the windshield.
It happened friday morning and I called our insurance agent to get some recommendations..Safelite was the one who we went with. Called them to set up an appointment and gave our credit card number to secure the time, price and date. They came to our home and it was completed in just less than an hour.
Didn't go thru insurance, but just paid the bill which was $366 complete.
Very satisfied............so far........

I live in Rock-Hauler-Heaven, or so it seems. I keep a windshield-fix-kit on the pegboard in visual inventory management. Soon as I use it, I place another order on Amazon. You have to fill the little rock-chips immediately or you'll end up with crack all the way across....I have noticed, the trucks seem to be more of a problem than the Jags, I guess due to the rake of the windscreen (lack thereof in the case of the trucks)

Keep a sharp eye on it in the next big rainstorm to make sure your service provider hasn't created a leak...

It's a replacement job not a fix the hole job.

So in looking at thing this morning a fair amount of external tim (sides) has to come off. I'm not sure what happens at the top?
Along the bottom the plastic cover shield gets removed and them I imagine there's access all around.

But it also looks like the wiper arms will need to com off or if not then someone needs to be awfully careful to not bang them up especially against the hood?

I just see lots of opportunity for incidental damage to my car and I want to prevent that.

That's why I'm asking if anyone has been though this already?

Perhaps I am better off going to the dealer. My policy let's me pick who I like with a $100 deductible. I would hope that they use someone who's very familiar with how to do this on a Jag as opposed to a more generic technician though a good and experienced technician should be able to do this. I want that sort of guy.

I will allow a mobile windshield guy to come to my house to drill-and-fill the small stone chips in the glass that we all experience sooner or later....

However, for full windshield replacement, I ALWAYS go to a trusted glass supplier's shop, a guy whom I've done business with since the 1980s. Replacing a windshield properly calls for plenty of experience, skill, and sometimes artistic talent. Too many opportunities for improper clip usage, off-center positioning, poor sealing, etc. No way am I going to allow whatever mobile tech gets my ticket order to come and replace a windshield in my driveway, especially on a niche brand like a Jaguar. Protect yourself by researching glass shops in your area and then by all means, go there. It's well worth the extra time and aggravation....

Considering the rain sensor involved I think this one is going to the dealer after the holiday.

I just hope I get lucky and they don't end up damaging my car.

Well, three weeks later I picked up the car with new windshield. I had to go out of town for a week but even so, quick this wasn't.

Now a question ...

I went to the Jag dealer because the price usinging a Jag OEM windshield via this dealer was acceptable to the insurance company and I wanted someone to lean on if something went wrong beside some small glass shop even though that's who they farmed it out to. This shop does a lot of work for them so they know the car and will make it right because of that should there be a problem.

Fine.

But when I picked it up I was surprised that the glass did look a bit different on the masking portion and nowhere on the glass does the manufacturer "Pilkington" appear.

I don't remember if the original windshield did. All my other glass does.

So that leads to the natural question ... did they sub a generic glass and charge for the factory one? It's a huge difference.

How can I be sure and BTW I did pointedly ask that question too. They said of course it is.
