Default Manual Transmission Conversion?

I searched for manual transmission conversions for S-types and came up empty handed.

I know this has been a topic of discussion before, but perhaps someone has some newer information.

1. If you put a manual in a STR, what would be the impact on the electrical control system?
2. The obvious is having to put in a clutch pedal, hydraulics and machine a flywheel that fits the crank. Then you would need an adapter plate to bolt the trans up to the engine. Might need a custom trans input shaft that mates up to the clutch assembly.
3. Any speculation on a 6-speed manual transmissions that might be the easiest/best for a conversion?

I know that one can be fitted, because a TR6060 fits in the trans tunnel behind the LS3 in my conversion project.

Are you planning to use the AJ engine? The ECU will not be happy and that will be the most difficult part.

There have been a few threads in the XK section:

Does maserati have a manual? They mated this tranny up to a few of their motors so if they had a manual you could look at that.

If you're keeping the SC engine & PCM, maybe start with a CAN bus monitor and work out exactly what messages are passed to & from the TCM (from & to all modules) so you know what you may have to fake.

There are some hints at the end of the electrical guide as to the kinds of things going on but you'll need exact data I suspect.

Might even be worth disconnecting the TCM's CAN wires and seeing whether the car is even drivable. Ignore all errors and moans in the message centre! Use IDS to clear it all out after.

The gearbox is tied into the electrical system and the simple answer is no you can't. A few conversions have existed (XKR from Jaguar, featured on Top Gear UK) An XK8 was converted by Elite in the UK, not very sucessfully. There are at least two manual XKRs in the xkec with the one of Norman Durban being the most recent. he set up XKR Transmissions so if it works with the XKR, it should be a good basis for an STR
