the JTIS says its either the MAFS (electrical) or a clogged air filter.

You could try cleaning the MAFS, there's a link to doing so in the FAQ thread for the XK8/R models. Its very easy.

Are there any other codes, or just the P0102?

What about the harness connecting to the MAFS, can you check the pins...clean them with electrical contact cleaner maybe?

no other codes havn't tried the cleaner. If you unplug the maf there is no difference in the way the car runs

I don't think so. I'm not an expert on the MAFS, but if I unplugged mine, it would seriously affect idle...check the pins and wiring from the MAFS back. Did you also look for leaks just downstream of the MAFS?

Unhappy

The mechanic that I took it to said that the MAF has been the death of many Jaguars. I am really thinking that I bought a huge problem. The mechanic said that he is hearing a knock in the engine. Suggested taking it home taking the belt off and starting it up to eliminate any accessories causing the knock. Then go from there. Says the MAF could have caused the car to run hot. Very worried that this is going to turn into buying another engine
