Great Idea.

From the XKR/XJR using a wider tube without the sound proofing tubes and ribbed section does already give more horses, not sure how much but it wil help on a str, but it will certainly do something.

Another thing that might help a bit is to make a bigger and nicer flowing curved connection to the TB. The aluminium piece right now is already not bad, but it can be improved.

Looking forward to this,
Andre.

A local shop here in South Florida created for me a custom intake pipe.

I'm sure that stock is better than anything that sucks the air from the hot engine compartment. My mustang cold pipe goes thru the fender in the wheel well and the air filter is in there. Big oval K&N style.

Intakes are not really for performance. They are mostly desirable for making excellent induction roar.

I see plenty of high performance turbo cars that suck in hot air just fine. And they sound glorious...

I think that's because the turbo already runs off the hot exhaust! Also, any car will run better when it's breathing in cold air. As for sound, if that's all your going for then I guess you got it.

Is the custom tube you had made available from the shop?

The two main problems with the Jaguar Intake are (as far as performance restrictions) - the paper element filter, and the baffles and silencer ports.

Replace the stock filter with a K+N panel filter, and remove the baffles in the airbox.

Then replace the section between the throttle body and the MAF, that has all those ports to eliminate noise, and you have just about as good an intake as it gets on these cars. The airbox pulls air from the fender well - and the surface area of a replacement k&n panel filter is fine. Actually the mina piece between the throttle body and the MAF would work - maybe wrapped in some exhaust header heat wrap.

You'll hear a bit of a growl too, if that's what you're into.

If you just care about performance - that's going to be the best, without plumbing directly into the fender well and basically putting an air filter behind a fog light. Which is asking to hydrolock an engine under the wrong circumstances.

George

So does anyone know if you can do this, essentially turning the Mina intake into an "elbow" leaving the stock airbox? Would I need a coupler of some sort?

Not really feasable, I will be doing another run of elbows soon, I have been in and out, with my health. but now that Im stable and getting everything in order. I will be doing more product development and Im still working on getting those pesky NORMA fittings. that have haunted me in my slumber.
