Misfire in Cyl8, RP, Flashing CEL
2004 S-Type 4.2L 80k Miles. So I drive my car like an old man and do not beat on it at all. the past year I have noticed when at idle it revs a little on its own the need goes from a little under 1k to 1k RPM and the needle bounces.
But once it was warmed up that went away, over this past winter I noticed it did it while diving and seemed to even make a quick "bogged down" in the engine when I stepped on the gas to get on the highway or so on but then it would be fine. I put the car away three weeks ago for the night as I always do but the next morning on the way to work it was running rough and than the dreaded restricted performance kicked in and it was running like it was going to blow up or kick the bucket. I was only 1 mile away so I limped it home and parked it. I got back on these forums as I have in the past and started digging around. I decided to replace all the 0-rings on my vacuum lines I found on the top of the motor and even used a very fine amount of harveys high temp plumbers grease on the O-rings as I found in my Ford F150 that had some o-ring issues it worked well in helping seal and making the rings last longer. I also replaced my battery with a new premium one from jag dealer as mine was about 6 years old and leaking a little.
I should mention before I did all of this I ran the Bluetooth OBD2 and it game me these codes, P0308, P1314, P1316, P1000.
At this time I will admit I found a bit of oil on the plugs and on the boot to the coil pack, that did not make me happy cause I know I have to replace some seals now. But so be it if I must to correct this issue.
I cleaned the boots well with rubbing alcohol to remove the oil and put the new plugs in. started the engine and all seemed to be cured. Battery was reading 13.5 volts, air pressure was reading 20.5 at idle <-- is that good?, and the engine was running smooth,. no flashing check engine light like before on start, and Torque Pro app on my tablet was showing no faults or issues. So I decided to take the car out to see how it would run. It was running okay for about 2 miles then it started chugging and flashing the check engine light and gave those codes again, and went into restricted performance mode again. I came home and parked it and there it sits. This all happened today, and now I am on here looking for what I should do next. I know I need to fix the oil leaking on my spark plugs but would like someone to point me to the seals at say advanced auto parts or another place please. and any other info you can provide to me on other things to check would be great and helpful!
Sorry this is so long but I thought id give as much info as I can.
Thank you
Ken

I have a 01 s-type, I love the car, however, have NOT loved all the problems it's been havin. I've been having the same issue w/misfiring cylinders due to oil leaking . I've had both sides of my valve covers replaced and thought that problem was resolved. U would've thought it was resolved after spending $1000 on each side. I was wrong!! My poor jag is feels like it's running off of 3cyl instead of 8.. I can smell the oil burning , & really feel like I didn't get what I paid for. All I wanted was for my car to get fixed right the first time, not 5 times later. I really think i'm getting screwd over by these so called auto shops..
