Default Misfiring - RESOLVED

Right then..
Got my S type 3.0 V6 manual,80K on the clock,year 1999

Has a misfiring problem which is intermittent. The car was parked up for 7 months and he said it was running fine before with no problem and now its on the road it's misfiring. Am I right in saying its a common problem to be coilpacks and easier to replace all 6 plugs and coilpacks? OR what would be the chances be for it to be the MAF sensor? Or is coilpacks the more likely cause?! I've had a fault code reader plugged in and nothing comes up neither is an engine management light on.

Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Matt

Earlier S-Types at least suffer a bit with the coil-over-plug modules. Does this misfire happen in wet weather, by any chance? In my case it started like that, before the offending unit broke down completely.

Matt,

(I've moved your question to the S-Type section to get more views by members with the same model.)

A misfire with no codes is very strange but replacing all six coil packs and plugs is a costly way of troubleshooting and not guaranteed to fix it.

Hope the guys here can come up with advice and suggestions.

Graham

Hi Matt. A weak but "not totally down and out" coil can cause a misfire without setting off a code. Swapping in a new coil cyclinder to cylinder till offensive misfire ceases is one method.

Will have P1111 or P1000, regardless - which does it have?

If P1000 it's not ready to start flagging most codes, so won't flag misfires.

All done Replaced all coilpacks and plugs - problem sorted.
Now the right hand of the block has had recent plugs, whereas the left side under the inlet havnt been done for at least a few years. The chap I got the car off said its been serviced last year. Well.. The 'mechanic' was obviously snidey and replaced just the x3 on the right hand side of the block and I guess didn't fancy taking the inlet off to do the others!

Man thanks for everyone's help and opinions for the cause of my problem.
