Model advice
I'm teetering between buying an 04-05 S type or XJ. I'm looking for advice as to which way to lean. My main concerns are: Is there a major difference between insurance and part costs, and how do the two models compare when driving in snow(especially weight distribution)? Also, what is the general opinion of steel versus aluminium construction? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
xj is beuaty, the almunium frame had given jaguar the edge on alot of other cars, its remarable actaully, i don't know about snow theough, i got a x to get me through those -50 start ups lol, awd is a big help to, i think you be more pleased witht he xj, the s type is nice, but once again its a smalelr version, and the xj delivers the whole package, in my terms anyways

The XJ - The only unique platform Jaguar sedan. Aluminum body is light for the size but the car is still a heavy full size sedan. Only specially qualified body shops can handle repairs to the body. Look up an article about the long term A8 on CarandDriver's web site that they wrecked. Common power train and electronics with other Jags.
I'm considering the XJ as a possible next Jag. I love my S to death. I would also get an XF... But I have a while to decide and what certified Jags are selling for will be the big factor.
Both the S and XJ should be OK in the snow. My S with crappy tires was pretty good in Ohio snow... Real good after getting new tires. That said, I like the way rear drive handles in the snow vs front drive.
Another thread onlong the same topic. Has some good info.

IMHO, find one that is a CPO (certified pre-owned). You'll then have the factory 6 year 100,000 mile warranty (from original sales date) to go with it.
Insurance shouldn't be a major factor. My 06 3.0 is a bit less than my wifes 08 Nissan Altima. Both were close on the sales prices. Course driving records and multi car discounts also affect rates.

I owned 2 XJ's before I got my S and as far as comfort, handling and a smooth ride the XJ is tops! The STR is way more fun to hot rod though. In the snow I had way less trouble with the XJ. However given the choice I would keep my STR.
Hope this helps.
